whenever i feel real down in the dumps, i start craving for a smoke. it's funny, because i never smoked my entire life.

like so, i've been suddenly feeling down in the dumps for some reason. i feel like just being an inactive statue; and at the same time, smoke something to - i guess - let it all out.

is this a sign that my unchecked mental health/depression has become real bad? i'm not interested in smoking, after all.

Funny you say that. I've had the exact same craving when things get bad, and I've never smoked before either.

I guess we're desperate for some form of relief. Pretty sure I'd be smoking all the time if I started. For now I just pick at my lips until they bleed.

Maybe it's because smoking often calms people down, relaxes them and it is a coping mechanism, so maybe you just want some sort of release from thoughts, rather than actually smoking something. It's probably due to brain chemicals or something.

I dont smoke but I drink despite of how hard it is to actually get the alcohol down my throat after I had an ethyl coma a couple of months back. Like I have to drink very slowly otherwise my body pukes immediately and IT BURNS LIKE HELL. The taste and smell is just so much stronger than before it's nuts and I feel a strong gut feeling that it will happen again even when I drink way less than that time. I've never been a regular drinker even (that's why I went overboard that time, didn't know my limit) but still do it when I don't know what else to do.

Sometimes when I'm stressed I crave a cigarette, but I've smoked before (not often, maybe 6 or 7 times in my entire life) and I've used snuff on the weekends for a few months.

Shitty life pro tip: smoke, but choose something with a very high concentration of nicotine so that you'll immediately get nauseous and no longer crave smoking.

I don't know if that's a sign you're getting worse. I mean, you're looking for an escape other than the bus... that's kinda positive, right?

I think our brains are just begging us to get some dopamine by trying to find new vices/addictions lol.

For instance, bupropion helped me so as not to drink alcohol everyday but on Saturdays, when I'm finally having booze, it's just the best pleasure ever!

(I can't wait for tomorrow! I'm so anxious! haha)

cigarettes very likely, as there've been moments where sometimes (when being outside) i would accidentally breathe in smoke fumes

how come you even get yourself to drink alcohol (which - you said is a difficult task) in the first place? i can't even get things done correctly sometimes because of how "low energy" i've become :ahhha:

for now i suppose, unsure if i want it to stay that way

Be prepared for your lungs to go "wtf is this thing?!"

I'm an ex-cigarette smoker (4yrs), that still smokes weed with friends sometimes, and my lungs do that every time. I don't cough, but I definitely "feel" the smoke, like you've just breathed in something harsher/thicker than air.

It's smoking and drinking day, my reward for being a "decent" human from Monday to Friday! Wanna get some red wine join me? It'd be a pleasure haha.

I like vodka, beer, white wine, blue wine (yeah, we have that here lol) and some other weird stuff that I'm gonna have tomorrow + some lagers.

haha, yeah, for a while maybe.

i'm sorry for your loss.
though, i am unsure if dying from lung cancer is a good way to go. one of my relatives passed away a few years ago this way. apparently he smoked (cigarettes of course - tempted to call them ciggies) during his college years...

sounds like a great reward then ehehe. and maybe someday.

interesting, i've never thought there were other varieties of wine too! i've only thought the red ones are the most prevalent.
i think i'll go research about the other varieties of wine now-

Now that I am so close to CTB but am having issues getting my materials and do really stressful things to get them (like talking to a million different customer service reps with my social anxiety) it just gets to me and I get great surges of anxious energy. Planning also adds to this pressure. I only drink in these times when I get super stressed and I can't stop pacing around and feel like exploding and I dont know if I'll be able to escape life.

so how does "harsh/thick air" feel like?
It's weird/hard to describe.... cos breathing "second-hand smoke" is totally different to actually smoking yourself/directly.

The first time you smoke; you feel a tightness in your chest for a split-second, breathing in/out requires more effort like you're in a vacuum with no oxygen (which is why most people cough - to clear their lungs), but in reality it's just cos it's a "different sensation" cos you're not breathing in normal air. You get used to it quite quickly, and when you realise the new sensation is normal, you don't panic/cough anymore.

I feel the tightness again if it's been a few weeks since I last smoked, but after a few pulls on a a joint, my lungs kinda remember the feeling and then it's fine again

Edit:/Pro-Tip - If you do ever decide to try smoking; breath in a little so you have air at the bottom of your lungs, take a little pull and hold it in your mouth, then open your mouth and breath-in regular air (fully). Then exhale fully. You shouldn't try to take a huge pull on your first go, cos your lungs will freak out, and you'll definitely have a coughing-fit. Oh, and enjoy the nicotine head-rush, that's the special "first-timer reward" :smiling:
