I've just had the 4th counselor this year tell me that they can't help me. It sucks because I've started to sometimes feel like life is worth living, mostly because I've started to socialise more and because I feel my career is going well – a stark contrast from when I joined in February.

For the first time in my life I want to live and I want to get better but being told that I'm helpless and hopeless makes me think I might as well ctb now. I'm pretty lucky as I bought SN when it was still readily available, my ranititidine expired in may but my primperan and SN should mean that I'm good to go.

I still think about death a lot but I had a hope. I just can't believe someone took that away from me so quick, silly me thinking I could have a good life.

I've never had a counselor directly say they can't help. However they will talk in euphemisms and politically correct jargon which implies they can't help. Phrases like "you must learn to help yourself" "I can't tell you how to live your life" "you must accept yourself". It's all a polite way of saying they can't help you.

Ignore what that counselor said (easier said than done I know). He or she sounds like a moron.

Yeah the first time it happened I was like "well that was weird but time to find another one" but I genuinely don't understand why they say they can't help me. They always say it's because I'm bad at answering questions but I said that was one of my issues that I'd like help with.

What is it that they can't help you with? Depending on that, you might have had some really honest therapists who just didn't want to take your money if they knew they couldn't give results, or therapists who just don't know what they are talking about.
I hope you can get better if you are trying to.

Therapists are like that. Emotions and psychology are unfortunately way too complex for people to understand them 100% of the time, even when you know all there is to know.

I've had that happen with my last few therapists. It's not something you want to hear, but (in my case, at least) it was maybe a good thing. I was devastated at first, but then I realized they weren't saying I was beyond help. It's that they knew they couldn't do it and thought I would be better off not wasting any more time with them and finding someone more qualified or doing a different type of therapy.
