Suicide and suicide attempts take a tremendous emotional toll on the families and friends of those who died, as well as on attempt survivors. But suicide also has economic costs for individuals, families, communities, states, and the nation as a whole. These include medical costs for individuals and families, lost income for families, and lost productivity for employers.

and lost productivity for employers.

Good. Great actually. I should do it just for that.

Suicide costs 1.3 million dollars.
Haven't felt like a million dollars in a while.

1.3 million dollars? hahah
Money is useless when a person is gone.
Whether you had access to it while you are alive or not.

This made me laugh so hard! Thanks!

In the UK, attempting suicide was a capital offence one time - seriously. If you failed the CTB the State would hang you by the neck until dead. We are a seriously fucked-up species.

Wouldn't commit suicide for any other reason other than suffering too much. You're not going to be around to enjoy the impact of your ideological statement, you be dead

That sounds ridiculously logical of a government. "This person tried to kill themselves and failed? Let's do the job for them right."

I wish this were still the case.

a person takes his own life and there are those who worry about the employer who (poor thing) earns less.

I am satisfied that my CTB will cost the state lots of money. Very satisfied.

It's my main motivation for wanting to CTB before I have to start working. I've had tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars poured into me but it'll all be for nothing. If not for the state's fault, I would've been a white-collar taxpayer and would've paid back what I was given through time but looks like it won't be coming to that. A pity for the baby boomers who need their slaves to pay for their pensions :)

I remember reading this somewhere in the past (a few years ago) as well. CTB'ing is indeed costly, but I do believe that we are already overpopulated and quality of life sucks for a lot of people in general. I could get into all the socio-economic problems, but that's another topic entirely. Either way, I'd say if a person is tired of life, the pain outweighs the pleasure, then it's up to said person to decide whether he/she wants to stick around. Money is irrelevant to the deceased once said person is gone. I suppose the 1.3m dollars includes lost productivity and potential earnings of said person.

Wouldn't quite read it that way. It's just another version of prevention is cheaper than dealing with the problem when it arises.
It applies to health care, social care, mental health care, infrastructure investment, general maintenance and disaster mitigation.
A lot of grief, pain and suffering would have been prevented if most of us had gotten proper and effective help in time.
