Just wanted to have a thread that could detail the effects that this period is having on our mental state and of any news cases being directly attached to people's hopelessness over the future.

For me, the main way it has impacted me is being cooped up in a place, with persons i would rather not be with, to put it very lightly. With the exact person who makes me suicidal to be exact.

On top of that, i can't move out and get a job now, since everything is on pause, i have to bare it until something gives.

Concerning me, yes, lockdown is a bit annoying and I cannot travel, however at the same time it is making me not only unable to live, but unable to die.
The chances of using my ideal method are dissipating and I don't know how long will this lockdown last. Because none of the preferred methods are available for me now.

Strange, to be stuck in limbo
I can't think of a single time in history that such a limbo would have been possible.
Mass unemployment usually resulted in war and strife in the past.
Now with centralised control and digitised services, we have been placed into a sub-reality of sorts.
Very weird times. Stuck in limbo.

For myself, I want to die coronavirus or not. (There are some who only want to die because of the virus). The only thing that it's really changed is I don't know about doing it in a hotel since we are supposed to be quarantined in our apartments or homes. Still my main concern is the effect it will have on immediate family.

If you really want to die you will wait and and plan it carefully. It took nine months for you to be born. It is not going to take a few days for you to die however much you want that. Quarantine is lifting across the US and Europe. You may not die of Coronavirus. Very few people actually do, although it is so infectious. And nobody knows who does yet. Some people say you need good lungs but there is evidence to suggest nicotine protects and smokers die less. Nobody knows. That is why is it called a novel Coronavirus. It is wrong to try to infect yourself with that. You would be infecting other people who want to live because you may have it for up to two weeks without symptoms, if at all. I am saying that as someone who is suicidal, but not homicidal (but for few people). It would be wrong to want to die from this. There are better ways that would not harm other people. You have to wait if you are determined.

It's funny that my CTB will have nothing to do with coronavirus but I'm okay with people making that assumption. The timing is actually pretty convenient.

Not surprised that suicides are increasing due to COVID-19. Social isolation + job loss/economic troubles + increased anxiety/fear/uncertainty/hopelessness is a perfect storm for CTB.

For me, COVID-19 has made my desire to CTB much stronger. The social isolation isn't new to me, but I find that I have a desperate need to reach out to my non-existent support system for comfort from the never-ending anxiety. I feel so afraid of the world and the future, and I know I'll never go back to "normal" (not that "normal" was good, but it was better than this). I'm never going to feel safe again, I'm developing agoraphobic tendencies and obsessive thoughts/intrusive mental images, etc...I'm a mess. Not to mention the economic toll this will take on myself and family. I feel so hopeless and ready to CTB, but I cannot seem to get over my SI despite trying for 10+ years :eh:

I think this is the ideal time for protests and increase in crime levels. Triggering of suicides, domestic violence and struggles is just a part of the iceberg which is already above the surface. And only lifting lockdown can solve these issues. Cure can ruin more lives than the disease.

I believe this too to be the case. Violence (especially at home) suicides, double suicides etc. grow. Can women even go to live in safe house during Corona?

Many experts say that lock down don't make big difference. Also there are equally Corona in hot countries so it should spread in summer too. I think that Sweden was wise with not putting any lockdown. They have so many immigrants and people traveling from China etc. (like Italy) that I believe they would have gotten high death rate anyways. Also they admit the death rate is high because of improper handling of old people in care homes etc. When the lock down ends people will start getting Corona flu anyways in every country so what's the point. I think that Sweden should have kept old and very sick isolated well and caretakers and patients should have been tested for Corona. Caretakers spreading the virus caused the deaths of many old people there and happily government admits it publicly. Otherwise I think they are wise to not lockdown the country. On the other hand same caretakers and doctors (also family visiting them) have always spread other viruses and bacteria that kill many old people.

New studies raised the possible Influenza deaths to about 850 000/year. Different hospitals have different ways to think what caused the death. If someone very old with terminal cancer and weeks to live get flu then the cause can be seen as old age and cancer or the flu if the flu caused for example pneumonia and person died to lack of oxygen. It is said that most mark the death being caused by old age and cancer in that case. That is why the estimates are about 250-850 000 influenza deaths every year. Also in Countries that ban euthanasia hospitals stop feeding very sick to help them die. That is too marked as death from old age and cancer etc. which many get. Because all old people will get lowered immune system and more diseases they usually die to flu even if it's marked differently.

Now with Corona it is clear that if person has Corona virus flu and without it had days, weeks or months to live they always mark the death being caused by Corona. Even when patients had been estimated to have days to live or they had passed that before getting the Corona virus. So that it would seem more lethal. I believe that countries with lockdown will make Corona viruses to sound much more lethal than other viruses to lower civil unrest and anger caused by lockdown.

One can say that lockdown was reason for lower death rates. But on the other hand I am sure that people don't go to hospital so easily if they get flu unless they get severe pneumonia. Even if they have been alone all days since lock down and would be they hate the idea for being forced to be home by the government. Also some may not want doctors visits daily at home since they can't stop the virus.
In my country there are very little Corona cases and deaths by
Normal influenza deaths and cases have been higher. By records in some countries the Corona don't seem more deadly than other virus flus. In my country doctors always test if people with flu have bacteria infection. If not they are sent home and told that nothing can be done to virus flus. Except there are meds to slow down growth of HIV and herpes viruses. Some doctors have given same drugs to Corona patients.

In USA and poor countries where people can't keep house and feed their family and pay bills if they loose their job there will likely be rise in suicides and suicides where the whole family is taken with it.

Just wanted to correct you first, not millions but thousands. However, I got what you mean.
The problem was from the very start. We cannot defeat coronavirus, it will be a part of our lives like HIV, flu, tuberculosis, typical pneumonia and all possible respiratory diseases. Some things are just unstoppable. There are no flu lockdowns though every year many people are affected and simply die. Lockdown is a way to make money recirculate in economy. It is not wise to devastate the economy every pandemic, however, the crisis was imminent. Controlled crisis is way better than uncontrollable. Now we have a controlled crisis and it will not allow the uncontrollable crisis appear. That's how we kill two birds with one stone. We redirect money and we avoid a huge crisis which is beyond our control. The problem is that governments know nothing about how to get out of this crisis, but that is a different story. Let's return to covid. Only vaccination of all the people can solve the issue, but practically it is impossible because nobody will ever tell about the damage to body caused by vaccine. No information - no trust. Vaccine idea is doomed to a failure, first, we don't know if it will ever be created, second, not all the people will support this idea. We know how ardently they want to get rid of us, make the population much lower, but we know that as well and will not allow to experiment on us, even if it will be a harmless vaccine.

So this is where things get weird, and relates to the OP: Corona Suicides.

When suicides are reported in the news, especially when the methods are reported, suicides go up.

Some who suicide are being touted as heroic, such as the doctor and the EMT. Message: heroes suicide.

Suicides are being reported as a result of COVID, reinforcing the narrative that it is more powerful than life/pro-life.

So it makes sense that there may be some depopulation going on.

BUT...what about the exponential increase in births that's going to occur as a result of quarantines in place, especially if there are waves of quarantines for the next up to two years until the magical vaccine is approved and distributed?

What kind of fuckery is this?

Thanks. I corrected it now that I am still in same country by VPN.
I can't correct any of my messages later because I am always made to be in different country and server because I use VPN. So it's nice to get corrections immediately when I can fix them. :)

I cannot understand that either. Now there is no stigmatisation of suicides if you write or tell someone before it that you fear you could have Corona virus. And not just that but people who do suicide are seen heroic.
And everyone knows that mostly just very ill and old die to Corona if they get it just like they always do to Influenza and other diseases.

On the other hand Trump is critized for saying that lockdowns will raise suicide levels because of isolation and loss of work and economic suffering. Corona causes suicides and not the lockdown.
It is so obvious that countries tell media and lie what ever is best for their own agenda.

I think that there should be no stigma for suicide in any case. I wish there was alway the same level (or rather higher) of understanding and symphaty for people who have had no other choice. Now media has written more symphateticly of some other crimes too. Noting that sometimes some people can feel they have no other way out.
I think that governments should seek to fix the reasons that cause people to make crimes and not just punish them and shame publicly in media. In Northern countries it is more like that.

Also same with suicides. Government should help and give justice and money enough to survive living. But what they do is opposite. They cause suffering to people who wish to die by prisoning them and forcing them to eat drugs they get pain from and making them kiss their ass or they can never get out. Police raid houses of even very old and terminally ill to take their Nembutal they have saved for last days or when the pain is too high to handle and prison them to psychic prison (clearly they will not change their mind of wanting painless death either so it can be harder for them to get out) It is torture to make some feel extreme pain. For example cluster headache (commonly known suicide headache) causes same amount of pain that worst torture mechanism, last month's with terminal cancer is very painful etc.
Then on top of all that governments and individuals cause suffering to loved ones by shaming them in media and telling bad things about their family member who died by suicide like revealing normal intimate info of the deceased one and them to make deceased and their loved ones seem like very bad people. That is bullying and causes just more suffering and suicides. That is in every way very wrong thing to do.

I think there are ways to protect people without huge economic impact. Like how they do in Sweden after they started to take better care of the risk group (they protected old people very poorly from Corona). Though I think some stricter rules could be fine there. Restaurants don't get much more money when they can only serve 50% of customers inside it (I hope government gives them also benefits for lower sale). I can't see why restaurants especially pizza and kebab place could not just do deliveries.

Old and sick people should get all the protection but not to the extreme causing them to suffer from total isolation of they don't want that. Since doctors and nurses check those with Corona daily I wish they add time to chat with them too. I also wish that red cross etc. volunteers who visit old lonely people for company and help them with shopping and house work could take tests and if clean could keep visiting the old people with face mask and other protection. And keep same person visiting same people every time like it always should be anyways. The loneliness for the old people is worst because most don't use Internet and many childless meet only volunteers and people who they see outside like neighbors, business owners, church members etc. they can't see at home. I have worked in two jobs where almost every customer came just to have someone to chat with, which we did, even that was not the purpose of the business. We got nearly every day fresh baked goods and lovely company from our very sweet customers even we said no gifts were needed and that we loved them the same without them.

@GoodPersonEffed Yes, I noticed that too. With a huge bravado they demonstrate suicides of famous people or people who do an impact. Like take a look at this, your idol caught the bus - learn from your idols, dear student. I doubt people will make kids during the crisis probably because many don't have any means to feed their newborn children. Could you imagine buying a baby carriage right now? Not only you have no money, but everything is closed at the same time. So I do not expect a huge baby boom. A few years of lockdown and you will delay with reproduction. But there is a probability of one more interesting thing and it is called a chemical castration. Technically it is possible to create a medication which will kill libido at least for 5-10 years. It would be much more effective than any measures taken now. Even nowadays many people face issues with inability to have sex after cancelling medication like SSRI. It is such a "good" measure to get rid of reproduction of "defective" people with "bad" genes.
@a.h They know that people are social animals and if they appear in captivity and in loneliness, they feel bad and inclined to kill themselves. Elderly people are always a problem for governments, but economy can get huge money from treating elderly people so they lose nothing. But loneliness can make them unstable and may trigger heart or any other diseases which of course are good for medicine. No patients - no money, everybody is sick - somebody is sitting on a barrel with notes and having a good lifestyle.

@faust, I'm surprised you don't see a baby boom on the way. People are locked indoors. There's not much to do but eat, read, watch videos, knit, go online and, you know, that other thing that people go online to watch but can do irl. Especially in Catholic countries where birth control is controversial, and in poor countries where people can't afford birth control. There's probably more sex happening in the world now since when the baby boomer generation was created.

I live alone and my only source of comfort is my best friend and mother. I can't see either. I'm terribly lonely and virtual stuff doesn't replace real life for me. My place feels like a mental prison where someone is always sticking a metal rod in to prod me. In the way that walls all blend together and going for a walk doesn't help. Hallucinations have been bad, physical health issues that I'm not ready to admit to have come up that I can't treat the way I'd like because of all of this. It's scary, just scary. What a nightmare.

Welcome to the club. I joined this site and started planning to CTB specifically because of Corona quarantines. While every US state is different, mine is supposed to have a quarantine well into 2021.

That is insane! So many would loose their jobs. So many would suffer greatly and many will die by suicides, lot more will try and lot more wish they had gut to do it.

I believe that only old and sick should be kept isolated for protection and social distancing is smart. I believe the way Swedes think that the virus will spread anyways after the lockdowns to most people in every country.
Even they had more deaths (which would be much less if they had kept old and sick safe from start) the economic impact is small. Less unemployed means less suicides and healthier and happier people. It may be that neighbouring countries will reach same levels after the lockdown anyways.

But Italy, Spain and French must have had lots of old and sick and maybe not so good health care. They should have lower death rate than Sweden if lockdown worked.

Trump was right about the fact that suicide rates will be big from the Corona virus. Though some say that global crisis can bring people together like after 9/11. That don't seem to be case now.

I don't really agree with him much but everything he says is twisted and turned into something else in media and told to be nonsense or even dangerous At the same times there are studies in media saying same things than Trump.

Like when he said that maybe using heat/light could help ease the Corona infection. In my country people have had for centuries red heat lamps which they use to heat their chest and throat and sore muscles when they have flu with infection in throat. More blood goes to the heated areas which means more white cells to fight the infection. Also people go to sauna to breath hot air or they breath it over kettle with boiling water which helps. Kettle is used to kids too and with small babies, even newborns, it's advices to several times a day to leave tap and shower flowing hot water to bathroom for about 15 min and after its very warm and humid then turn them off and go in with the baby witch have flu that affects their breathing for a while. Also even as a little kid my parents (other is doctor) told me to curgle with strong alcohol when I had infection in my upper troath. As older I was told I can swallow it if I can so that it will kill bacteria and disinfect the whole throat. They hate all alcohol otherwise.
Heat and killing bacteria with booze has been used in fighting flu like forever. Fewer brings naturally heat too which helps if people don't lower it often with meds.

So trump was right but he is not just addressing his thoughts well enough. In many countries people would see his points still and know what he meant..

I hope you are not stuck with parents or spouse who think you are faking and can do the same than others but you are just lazy if you are depressed or physically sick. Or getting told bad things about yourself.
It hurts my heart to hear some people having to hear that on daily basis. I could not live like that myself. :(
