conversation I just had with my mom... I told her about a girl I talked to that was afraid she'd attempt suicide if she was alone and she said "yeah well she needs to get her head on straight and really think about that one because do you want to be with demons and hells real satan is real he roams this earth and god is real too and anyone that takes their own life isn't going to like the outcome and anyone that says any different doesn't know what the hell their talking about there's too many stories and too many ways it's been proven."

this scares me..

It's just theories. Nobody really knows what happens when you die.
It might nothigness, demons, angels, aliens, waking up from this simulation, etc.
I'd ignore her and go on with my plans.

I don't think suicide is good, and I don't think it's bad either.
I'm a centrist when it comes to suicide.

Which part scares you? That your mom believes this or that it could be true?

If it's the latter, what's important is what YOU believe. Because your mom knows exactly as much on the subject as you or any of the rest of us does: nothing.

So just because she says it's a proven truth, doesn't make it one. Nobody living knows. It's all just speculation.

Do you believe any of this? Because that's the only thing that truly matters here: what you believe for yourself.

Also, I'm almost curious as to how it supposedly has "been proven". Because last time I checked, we had managed to prove bupkis. No one can. Not your mom. Not the Pope. Not the scientific community. And while it's impossible for the atheist to prove the contrary, I can at least sympathise with their arguments a bit more. Especially when laid down by brilliant minds like Stephen Fry:




In addition, why should a person who suffered so much in life that they chose to end it, be forced to suffer even more after they're dead? If I was a God, I would give them a lifetime of happiness as compensation.
