I'm new here, I need to vent about something. Every single day, the most improbable things happen to me. It's mostly for silly stuff, but I'm really starting to lose my mind over it. Just to give some general examples, I'll randomly go to some years old video with very few views and see that the last comment on the video was 1 minute ago. Or if I'm playing a game and an attack has only a 1% chance of missing, I'll miss like 5 times in a row. I constantly see the same numbers, I think of something random and start seeing it everywhere, stuff like this seriously happens every day. I've had things happen that have about the same odds as winning the jackpot, though they're for bad things of course. And you know what I think when I see CTB methods that have like a 99% success rate? I think "that 1% would definitely be me." I can't just shrug it off anymore, I feel like I'm not in control of my life, like I'm just a puppet.

My husband has had three instances of receiving no fortune in a fortune cookie. The most recent episode was followed next day by Chinese food again, and when he opened up his new fortune cookie, it read:

"Sometimes there is no fortune in the cookie."

What does all this mean? It's all random chance - even your weird streak of misses. The thing is if you imagined that game occurring millions of times over the years, that row of bad luck would happen.

I used to live in Nevada. All those casinos are propped up on "I'm on a losing/winning streak" fallacy, and that your machine or whatever is BOUND to hit (a jackpot). Eventually it will but probably not as soon as you'd like.

Try your game again. Also if I get too frustrated gaming, my aim and my coordination suffer greatly. So just relax and don't worry - you're just as statistically average as the rest of us. ;)

I may be wrong but it seems like you want to CTB because of those electronic video games at cafes? or actual Casino games?

In Carl Jung's Synchronicity, he noted that many of his patients would experience unlikely coincidences when they were experiencing significant life changes.

Certainly not, just kinda using it as an example. Like I said, stuff like this makes me terrified to CTB since there's no 100% method.

I've looked into synchronicity before, but it's hard for me to believe in that sort of stuff.

Fumito is absolutely correct too. The brain is designed to see patterns and make sense of disconnected occurrences. Literally we see stuff that's not there. Example: the IBM logo - you see the letters plain as day but they're actually just a bunch of horizontal lines.

Also consider the fact that the human brain is designed to spot negative events in the environment. It is a survival trait from when your existence depended on being on good terms with your tribe. This is why if you, say, post a video on YouTube and it gets 1,000 positive comments but 1 troll, the troll is going to be the thing that gets stuck in your head.

Try to write down whenever something good happens to you too. Our mental states fixate on bad news more than good events because good events we consider "the way things should be". I have to mentally challenge myself when I start to have a bad day with this or else I just see one shitty thing after another. It's almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Also try cleaning your mouse. Dust affects cursor accuracy.:blarg:

What I mean is like I'll go on some random 10 year old video with like only 100 views and see that the latest comment was 1 minute ago. It's just like the chances of someone else being at the same time and place are astronomically low, stuff like this happens very often for me.

I don't mean that. Certain games calculate attack accuracy based on a random number generator. So it will say like "99% accuracy" and i'll keep missing.

The RTP (Return to player) percentage amount of Nevada slot machines have been tuned as high as 97%. You can put $20 in a quarter machine and still walk away with nothing.

You've been experiencing just coincidence and chance - mind you, the chance of what happened to you with the 99% thing is pretty low but totally could happen. (Though Alanis Morissette might classify it as being "ironic".) My aunt would say that now you've saved up all your luck so you should go play the lottery.

Weirder things have happened. :O

Yup, I know exactly what you mean. This year has been awful for me with one thing after another happening. Discovered my partner of 28 years has had a string of sexual encounters with a number of people (including with 2 supposed friends of mine from years ago) ranging from simply flirting to full on oral sex over a period of 10 years, all whilst I was at work earning for the family. Then the car broke down, then health problems both physical and mental, then financial issues...the list goes on and on.

I don't believe in fate etc but events this year has me questioning my beliefs and whether I'm getting continually poked in the eye by the fickle finger of fate for reasons unknown. I'm a good person, try to live a good life but I now truly believe the old saying that 'nice guys finish last'

Curious if anyone has more thoughts about this.

Someone else actually made a thread about a coincidence on offtopic at the same exact time I made this post. You might say I'm being paranoid, but it still kinda freaks me out.

Hm well this kept happening to me when I went manic - signs, numbers, patterns in absolutely everything to the point that I believed I'd accessed another world and was unique and powerful. Just watch out if your thinking starts changing a lot or you start losing sleep, speaking faster, having more energy etc!

Part of me thinks that there probably is a spiritual dimension to this too - that we can tap into natural patterns which normally pass us by and can become more in sync with everything.

Up to you how you view it but yeah, if it's accompanied by other changes do seek help.

This post reminded me of seeing patterns in everything while manic too. Wild experience for sure.

I'm not saying it's mania or anything though, OP. Just jogged a memory. I'm sorry for the distress you're in.

Yes. Some people won't believe it but some will experience strokes of bad luck with little to no chance to recover. It's sad to know what happened to you, sorry about that.
