Thanks for response on my last threat, there were many good points made! This doesn't happen often when discussing these topics, and I'm glad we didn't fall in the old trap of oversimplifying.
These are my personal conclusions:
1: Attraction is not ruled by virtue.
2: Self development can improve one's results, but it doesn't ultimately determine them.
3: Unfairness isn't a valid excuse for giving up. One should contemplate his/her options and aim for realistic results.
4: Relationships won't make you happy by themselves, but they are a key part of life.
If other aspects are in order, they will no longer be a necessity.
5: Focus on people's actions and don't trust their words
6: Confidence is a result of past actions and experiences, people with bad past experiences are doomed to drown in a downward spiral, unless they start taking action. Those actions one can take won't necessarily lead to results, but they will surely make you experience less pain overall. They won't make life fair. They won't make people less hypocritical, but they´ll make your life better, that's for sure.
For those interested in what does actually attract people, from a scientific perspective, I'd recommend the following books:
https://www.amazon.es/Billion-Wicked-Thoughts-Internet-Relationships/dp/0452297877
https://www.amazon.com/Evolution-Desire-Strategies-Human-Mating/dp/046500802X
They won't be pleasing, but they'll surely be interesting to read and You'll be able to have realistic expectations.
