I think many of the less empathic/less neurotic types of people have no concept of loss. Meaning they don't have any ability to imagine what's it like to get severely ill/disabled and lose everything they have and then some. They never take the time to imagine what it would be like to lose control, because they think that's never going to happen to them, and because they don't give a shit about the people who are suffering in the present. Most people simply aren't prepared in any way.
There seems to be a connection between ones capability for emotional empathy, and general sensitiveness. Less sensitive people are worse when it comes to recognizing threats. So they don't care, or really even see the possibility of, for example, getting a stroke due to a unhealthy lifestyle and ending up in a wheelchair unable to even kill yourself for decades before finally withering away.
In my opinion this is a big reason why the world is like it is, why euthanasia and assisted suicide are less widespread. People in general are simply too unempathic and arrogant, right to the point where they are the ones dying slowly and painfully. And at that point nobody gives a fuck about what they have to say about anything anymore.
