Hello friends, I've noticed many of you scared and resorting to suicide early because Trump has been re elected. I follow politics closely, I want to clear some things up. (To be clear, I don't support Trump. I'm as devastated as you guys)

Queer folks and women, you won't lose any more rights than you have right now. Everything will be kept at a state-level, where revoking rights is still a very unpopular concept.

Immigrants, specifically those who seeked asylum, Trump will try to come after you. This is something that will likely happen. BUT, success will be futile. It's too inefficient, mass deportation is extremely unrealistic for any country of this size.

The economy will get worse, expect it to get much worse, under Trump. I suggest buying American things ONLY where you can if you're struggling because of the tariffs that will be imposed between now and 2026.

To all marginalized groups, rhetoric will get worse. And it will get worse fast. I'm sorry to say this. Bigotry will be at an all time high. Stay safe, stay together. We will endure.

If you have any more questions, leave them below. I just wanted to clear things up.

States have been taking rights away in droves. Women are bleeding to death in emergency rooms. Florida is pulling books out of schools. Teenagers are being forced to detransition. Even something as benign as drag is illegal in some places.

Abortion has never won a vote to be more strict on a state ballot since roe was overturned, all those abortion laws were set up by lawmakers. I am very confident they won't go any further with it. I do think Florida is going to get worse. I cry for the queer kids in that state.

i don't expect to lose most basic rights like voting or owning a bank account but the dumbing down of education, mistreatment of minorities & LGBTQ will have long reaching affects for years even after Trump. Now more than ever with social media where we see these action in real time and people still defend him & his cabin being horrible people to anyone that isn't like them.

How does Trump view legally assisted dying in America?. Is there likely to be changes here. I ask because I believe our leader in UK, Starmer has shown signs of backtracking on some issues and I fear our pending UK bill on legal assistance may fall away.!

No offense, but I don't think you have the pertinent info to be clearing anything up. We experienced what happened last time and are acting accordingly. We're scared not just because of Trump, but also Project 2025 and everything the right plans on doing. Look what they have been able to accomplish since 2016. Good thing there are running lists:

Considering the fact that Trump has aligned himself with the conservative evangelical right wing— fat fucking chance. The only legally assisted dying under his watch is by being a casualty in a future mass shooting. /s

But like, that's nothing new, and in the time Trump was not in power this failed to be properly addressed.

Not that I support it by any means, but if you think this is brand new and a sole person responsible for it, you're completely deluded.

Even if Trump/Vance fail to roll back rights federally or ban abortion nationwide (which is a big if), the Supreme Court will continue to be filled with conservative lunatics for the next 40 years. They are already intent on rolling back gay marriage, decriminalization of sodomy, and the right to have access to contraceptives among other things (see the Dobbs opinion's footnotes). And more civil rights cases will be brought to them with the intention of targeting us.

Also saying it will be kept on the state level is not very reassuring for those who live in red states tbh :/

Seriously! I'm trans and I might be forced out of my home in Alabama because of this.

It's not something that would be brought up I feel. But if it was, I think he would be in support. It aligns more with Republican values.

Project 2025 doesn't have nearly enough time to sprinkle itself in. There is no senate supermajority, democrats will be hard at work filibustering. Then in 2026 we're getting a democratic landslide. I'm not scared of it, I don't think anyone should expect it.

Trump likely won't fill any more spots in 4 years, except for already existing Republican spots. Yeah SCOTUS is an issue, but it's been an issue since the first time around, I was more focused on what could happen starting with his second term. I understand though, I'm sorry if I came off like "it'll all be okay", I just wanted to reassure some of you folks about what'll actually happen. This sucks, undoubtably.

I'm sorry about this. How are the laws around queer people there as of right now?

I hate that I'm going to have to hear about every idiotic thing Trump and his inevitably batshit cabinet do or say. I'm still fatigued from the last time he was president.

What happened last time? (Two or three quick things, if you're willing to share). I know Trump filled Supreme Court vacancies, which led to the overturning of Roe, and will have negative ramifications for decades to come. But I'm not sure what else he did to warrant this doom and gloom. Doom and gloom may be warranted, but for other, non-political reasons!
