Chances of not going unconscious during full suspension?

I've seen many hanging videos and read some experiences, and it seems that all of them loose consciousness within 20 seconds, if not less. However, I'm still worried about the possibility of this not happening and just suffocating to death, which is what terrifies me the most if I'm going to attempt hanging.
