I will be using CO to ctb hopefully within a month or two.
I have everything I need, but I think I'm still missing a few things.

I will be buying some ear mufflers to minimize the loud noise coming from the generator as well as goggles to prevent my eyes from getting irritated.
Will a gas mask will be needed? The reason why I'm asking this is because; I will have one of the windows of my car a bit open to measure the PPM using a meter. I cannot get too close to the window since I will probably faint from the CO.

So the question is: What type of mask would protect me from passing out from CO before my time comes?
Should I look for a mask that has specific specifications?

@Thanatos123 That one is $189 but imo seems to be the best.
Amazon product ASIN B00812AEDW
Although this one below says it protects against carbon monoxide also and is $40 :

I was thinking of a plan i have several mechanical gasoline generators and actual co formic acid generators (as in the thread on this site). A mask would give me some time to be inside a shed or small room to be able to turn on several generators on to have them all spewing co . I would turn on several mechanical store bought generators like yours and then i could also flip the jars on the formic acid generators then hold my breath with my mask on. then i could sit in there with my tpi monitor and then watch the co level go up . i know if it gets up to 1.5% of the air or 13,000 ppm then i'll go unconscious quickly and then death (peace finally ) will follow for me in 3 minutes , soyonara . How does that plan sound to you (or anyone in SS please give me feedback if you can) ? See anything that could trip me up? I know it seems like too much but i believe in redundancy to make things less likely to fail.

My thinking is the co mask would give me time to be conscious to be able to turn on several gasoline mechanical generators on as well as flip the jars for my formic acid generators. If i didn't have the mask i would be exposed to low levels of co that might be uncomfortable and might make me pass out so that i wouldn't be able to turn on all the generators to reach the high concentrations of co in the shed or small room. Having several generators on at the same time would guarantee a high level of co in the air and if one fails for some reason there are several others running .

Thank you so much for the info!

I've been looking for masks that meet those specifications, but most of the product description is generic.
Do you think this mask might work?

3M Respiratory Protection 51131494911 Rugged Comfort Half Facepiece 6503-Large

or this:

Leeko Anti-dust Spray Chemical Gas Dual Cartridge Respirator Paint Filter Mask with Activated Carbon Box

or this one:

KKmoon Half face Activated Carbon Filter Cartridge Dust Gas Face, Protect Dust The face for Safety Work Filter Welding Spray Protective Prevention Protection for Respirator 6200

or this:
3M Safety 142-5303 Safety Half Facepiece Disposable Respirator Assembly, Organic Vapor/Acid Gas, Large

I don't know about those. The 2 masks i listed earlier in this thread explicitly say that they protect against carbon monoxide. I would just read the details and only go with those that explicitly mention carbon monoxide. If i go with this method i'll use one of the masks i posted above.

which generator do you have? I find it hard to understand if generators have a CO sensor or if they have something to reduce the production of CO

When i was looking at generators i try to find the pdf manual online. And usually i can tell. Also in person i can look at the box and if they have this warning wouldn't that mean there is nothing to reduce the production of carbon monoxide or shut it off: ?

Usually on the outside of the box or in the manual there is a warning like this above.

@cytoarchitectonic
thanks! I have checked the manuals of a few, but I never noticed the warning "WILL KILL YOU IN MINUTES".
Instead I have seen the drawing indicating to use it far away from a window.
The fact that there is a warning not to use it in an enclosed space could probably mean that there is no sensor.
Anyway often it mandatory to add such warnings to prevent any possible lawsuit.
It is still safer to measure the concentration of CO as you plan to do.

I'm not able to find it on Amazon unfortunately.
I have some extra credit on Amazon and it would be easier for me and cheaper to use it on the site.
On Amazon when I look for "carbon monoxide respirator" or similar searches, I get very broad results.
It looks like most masks or respirators(at least the cheap ones) don't filter CO.

I didn't find the Firemask on Amazon but i found the Firemask on Ebay and it's around $47 dollars with shipping etc.

And the firemask is also on the manufacturer's website. The Firemask explicitly says it protects against carbon monoxide . If i were doing this i would hold my breath if i couldn't find the best mask. if you hold your breath the co can't get in imo.

The iEvac mask is on Amazon and says it protects against co but that is $189 .And there might be shipping not sure. i put the link in my previous post. Also i'm not an expert . I just was internet searching just like we all are to research methods. I'm no expert in co, masks nor anything , no experience like a fireman would have etc. So i can't tell if those masks you are asking about do protect against co. but i did find 2 masks that do say they protect against carbon monoxide and those are the ones i linked. Just be carefull and use your own judgement and research. I'm just tryping what i might do if i can get this method to work for me.

Yeah it looks like I'm having difficulties finding them.
I cannot order from ebay either, because they don't have pickup locations like amazon. This is an issue because I've been buying everything without suspicion and picking them up without having them delivered to my home. Now the mask is the only thing I need.

Since I don't have much of a choice, is there a DIY way of blocking CO?
What if I use an N95 mask?
I'm guessing this won't work either because CO is thinner and possibly has smaller particles than oxygen, right?
Any other ideas are welcome!

I'm feeling stuck and yet I'm very close to my goal.
I've got everything I need and a mask or a way to block CO from making me faint is the only thing I need in order to succeed.

I'm in the U.S. . i used to have a mailbox at the UPS store. i used to get all kinds of things delivered there doesn't have to fit a small box they'll hold it for you there. They might deliver from ebay or from the firemask website to the ups store. The firemask is around $47 something. But you can confirm all this by contacting ups store, websites etc to see if info is still current.
These 2 like i said above both state explicitly that hey protect against carbon monoxide .so if i use this in my method i'm using one of these 2.

i still see this one at Amazon . it's $189 Amazon product ASIN B00812AEDW . don't know if you are in the U.S. . that's amazon in the U.S. .

I'm thinking I might not go with a mask/respirator at all.
What precautions can I take to prevent my self from fainting?
As as wrote above: the generator will be running in my car's trunk and I'll be outside with the meter measuring the CO levels.
The front window will be a bit open so I can measure the CO levels.
Can CO penetrate through my cars body/exterior?

I think having the window open is a bad idea and the meter can be put close to the closed window and can be seen through the glass .

Also it's extremely easy just download an app and set up a smart phone as a video live stream to an url. So if i go with this method i would put the co meter in the car/van/shed with the generators and put a phone right next to the co meter and then i would go to that url in another device and i could see the co level inside the car but still being a at least 7 feet back away from the car.

So then i would then be able to stay 7-10 feet or so back away from the car so the co won't affect me then if any is leaking out. Then i would hold my breath and go in the car once i see the level is high and close the door . imo a mask and holding breath is better but it should only take a few seconds to open the door go inside and close the door still holding my breath. i can practice this holding breath opening door and sitting in car closing door and seeing if i can hold my breath that long to close the door. and i would practice with no generator on many times . and yes i think i can hold my breath that long and even longer with practice. imo you wouldn't really need a mask then but i would go with a mask if i could fit it in my budget and hold breath too .

Here is one video but there is much more info on the itnernet about how to set up a phone to send live video recording:

Thank you for bringing this up!
I don't think it will work though.

The issue is that I will be in the woods where no cell signal is available and I would not be able to go to the url without internet/data. I also checked various cell tower maps and there's only one tower in the area, yet the signal it emmits it's weak and does not reach my location.
If there was a way to connect to phone inside the car with the meter and use my primary phone to view the CO levels via Bluetooth would be awesome.

Any ideas?

The following app for android says it doesn't need internet access :

This excerpt is a quote from the app url:

"IP Webcam turns your phone into a network camera with multiple viewing options. View your camera on any platform with VLC player or web browser. Stream video inside WiFi network without internet access."

This is a video on how to use that app:

all this tech stuff seems kinda cool this app and this streaming is really handy. i have a few anrdoid phones. all this tech stuff makes me kinda pause a bit and think hmm maybe i might want to live for a little longer lol . but then i see all the problems i have and say i guess i have to ctb anyway.

cytoarchitectonic, thank you once again!

I just figured it out!
So I downloaded IP CAM on my old phone and I set it up.

I set up my primary phone as a wireless hotspot.
My old phone connected to my primary phone via wifi and I was able to stream the feed from my old phone to the primary one using the browser.

Now I just have to find a way to mount the phone or make it stand along with the meter securely.

EDIT: You can't imagine how stressed I was when I was looking for a CO mask. Now I'm at ease for the fact that I can do this without having to find specific items and spending money.

I also plan to go to the woods with this method. Although I don't plan to use a generator. I can't stand overly loud noises. More or less my car will suffice just fine.

@Isadeth , what will you use in you car charcoal or the formic acid method, or the exhaust?

@Thanatos123 what co meter will you use? There are tons of ways to mount phones on dashboards etc.

More than likely exhaust. But I've been looking into charcoal. But honestly, I don't wanna risk burning my car since they're quite hot. So exhaust is looking more likely.
