• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

Canada euthanasia now accounts for nearly one in 20 deaths

The rate of medical assistance in dying - also known as euthanasia - has grown in Canada for the fifth straight year, albeit at a slower pace.

The country released its fifth annual report since legalising assisted dying in 2016, which for the first time included data on the ethnicity of those seeking euthanasia.

Around 15,300 people underwent assisted dying last year, accounting for 4.7% of deaths in the country. Canada lawmakers are currently seeking to expand access to euthanasia to cover people with mental illnesses by 2027.

Canada is among a few countries that have introduced assisted dying laws in the past decade. Others include Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Austria.

Canada has a federal election in the coming year, and the overwhelming likelihood is that a Conservative government will be elected into office. The odds of them winning are currently estimated at almost 100% (literally), and I would count on them remaining in power for at least the next decade.

Realistically, if we're waiting for the government to expand MAID accessibility to the mentally ill, the earliest it'll happen is 2035-2040, maybe even towards 2045.

Earlier this year, a legal challenge was filed in a provincial (Ontario) court, the argument being that the exception against mental illness is unconstitutional. A Conservative government will fight this all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada whose ruling would be the final say, leaving the government no choice but to enact legislation expanding access for mental illness. But this court decision is probably what? 5-10 years away?... and then the government still has to go through the motions of following through, which could take an additional multiple years. And this is notwithstanding the possibility the court could rule against us.

So, whether we're waiting for the government to do it on their own accord or waiting for the courts to force them into action, it's quite a long ways off -- certainly much longer than this magical "2027" date the media keeps harping on.

I live here. Was supposed to be cleared in 2024 but was pushed back and is likely get pushed back again in 2027. Probably won't see it done for mental illness until at least 2030, and the requirements will likely be exhaustive and therefore hard to be approved. Think trying all therapeutic options (depending on condition: talk therapy, tms, ect, multiple medication trials at sufficient doses, in-patient recovery). Still, would be interesting to see what comes out of it.

Just wanting some peace

I wish I had access to such, it'd bring me so much peace and relief from suffering as ceasing to exist truly is all I personally see as desirable, I'd never wish for the terrible, torturous burden of human existence rather I just want nothingness. I just want to be at true permanent peace where this existence is no longer my problem and all is gone for me, I see so much cruelty in how it's not an option for me as I'd always prefer to painlessly cease existing than suffer for the sake of in this futile existence just to be tortured by old age, to painlessly cease existing is all I've ever hoped for, I suffer simply from existing.

An update on this as it sounds like a federal election is going to be called for April 28.

The chance of a Conservative win has dropped from virtually 100% all the way down to 9%, with our current-reigning Liberals making up the difference. A seemingly impossible political turnaround, made possible by the United States -- our once-upon-a-time most trusted ally and their ongoing threats against our sovereignty.

So, it's possible that MAID is back on schedule... although they still have to actually win the election, and then they'd have to actually follow through with their March 2027 commitment which, based on their track record to date, is questionable.

Either way, the status of MAID for mental illness is less dismal than it was a few months ago.
