Can't seem to find concrete information on this. Is it alright as long as it's below 30C?

Also, do you think it would degrade from the heater blowing near it in Winter if it's sealed airtight?

I don't think that should be an issue. People here have used "stored" sn. And the temps are almost always averaging in the higher 20s-30s

Don't expose it to air or moisture. I know that much.

Bump. Still concerned. It says to keep cool and store in a well-ventilated place. Does that mean the air quality needs to be good too? I'm concerned about PVC products releasing chemicals in the air.

As long as you keep it closed it would be good. The worst that could happem is the nitrite going to nitrate and the only way is exposition to air (O2). By exposition to oxygene the NaNO2 becomes NaNO3. Keep it closed.

The SN been in my truck for 2 years and gone through the summer seasons when temperatures in there reached 100+ degrees F. Still works, just gets a bit clumpy, but you shake it up a bit and returns to normal.

I wonder why it says to have it in a well-ventilated area though. If it shouldn't be exposed to air at all, the air quality shouldn't matter, right? It's beside a window with some vinyl sheets on it which I think release toxic fumes.

How do you know it works?

Strip tests and microdosing.

I think chemicals in general should be stored in well ventilated areas so no dangerous or toxic gases etc. can build up.

To avoid fire and maybe intoxication

SN is a good oxidizer when concentrated; it aids in combustion; hence, the need for ventilation.

So just to prevent fire hazard? But would it degrade with bad air / poor ventilation?

Also, it should be fine storing it in a metal container as long as it's sealed, right?

Yes, to prevent fire hazards. No, it will not degrade as long as it is properly sealed away from O2. Shelf life is around 3 years. Metal containers are fine, just store away from heat. Finally, do not reuse containers previously stored with SN.

Paranoid and still wondering if temperature fluctuations from an AC or heater blasting on and off throughout the day near it would affect it.

The AC turns on like every 30 minutes some days.

You are fine as the ambient temperature would remain at a constant temperature. Remember that your AC will moderate the environment near a band of temperatures. No worries here. Cheers.

Okay, same thing with the heater, right? When it was on last winter the temperature in my room would shoot up like 5+ degrees even though the central heating system was only raising it 1 degree.

You will be fine as long as it is away from a direct source of heat. Fluctuations in ambient room temperatures are too minor to be concerned with. Best!

Sorry, last questions hopefully. I know I'm annoying. To confirm, the AC/heater vent is almost right above where it's being stored but that's still not considered being near a direct source of heat?
Also, the SN is inside a box inside a dark wooden drawer that's about a foot from the side of a window but not in front of it. The blinds aren't very good so a lot of light seeps through and the window gets hot, but the drawer feels relatively cool. Does that sound okay? I don't really have anywhere else to put it.

To minimize temperature cycling, consider putting the SN package in an enclosed Tupperware-like container. The air within the container will serve as an insulator. Do keep in mind though that your SN has a 3-year shelf life from the date of production.

Well it's been in that position for a couple months already. Do you think it's okay? I did my best to block the window from the drawer with some boxes and there's not really UV rays shining directly on it but there is some sunlight around it.
