Why would you want to?
I feel like it would be a long arduous process that could potentially take years

The process? I believe PT is only a few weeks and then you are deployed.

Yes. Citizens of my country for example have formed a special battalion to help out. They provide training and everything. So I would suggest seeing if your country or even any of your neighboring countries have something like that. Not sure if there is also an international battalion or something.

When the war had just started, I had the same thoughts as you. But I was too physically weak at the time. Looking back, I think it was for the best. I've been following people from the battalion on social media and while a lot of them did end up dying, it's just basically a big gamble. You may get killed, you may just get injured and have to live with an injury which will make your life even more miserable; or you may survive. So not a very efficient and definitely not a very comfortable/peaceful way to attempt. Even if you do succeed, it's all just subject to chance.

Don't die for corporations and wealthy politicians.
There are much easier methods.

I can't imagine it would be easier for a homebound American NEET like me to say, attain a gun than it is to travel all the way to Ukraine to serve as cannon fodder. Imagine if it gets out to the general public that the Ukrainian army is allowing suicidal people to just join their ranks hassle-free to fulfill their suicidal desires, it would be bad press for Ukraine, and indeed I could guess that many of the high ranking officers of the Ukrainian army are actually pro-life conservatives who are nationalist yes and want to die for their country but don't like people dying for "no reason". Besides that, there must be at least a few weeks of gruelling training and documentation, which would just make me regret ever making the decision to come to Ukraine in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

What about joining a battalion that has a high chance of being cannon fodder?

No need to wait to get killed; that could be the most unpredictable and painful way of CTB.
Someone that joins a battalion in a war will get a weapon.
The problem is that in order to get admitted, one has to go through training to check whether he is fit enough.

It's certainly possible. You could try to do some good along the way (lol @ the insinuation that the war is for corporations and politicians, not the innocent Ukrainians who face slaughter) or you could play it safe and shoot yourself quickly, but in either case you'll both have to get to Ukraine and prove yourself fit to fight. I suspect their standards are fairly low due to desperation, but they don't want soldiers who will be liabilities.

There is the risk of being captured by the Russians and imprisoned for an extended period, possibly including torture (like extended solitary confinement) or even execution. Russia might try to exchange you for a Russian criminal.

I went through the recruitment process. Expect it to take several months, though it likely varies widely.
All information is available on their webpage.
As far as I recall they will not help with Visa, but once again, read the up to date info on the website.

True. But if you're comfortable shooting yourself, you could just get a gun without going through the trouble of going into war. The point is that if you are in the war, someone will shoot you. Basically doing the job for you. So you don't have a battle with your SI as much.

Possibly. But there's just too much uncertainty. You don't know if you'll end up dead or injured. And like someone else mentioned, you may also end up captured by the Russians. Which is probably the worst outcome of all. If you really want to ctb, there are easier ways. Like I said earlier, I understand the desire because at some point I was also considering it. But there really are better/more reliable ways to ctb than this.

they take people without military experience or training too?
I was under impression that they only take war vets or at least retired military dudes

Perhaps you could have access to explosive material, very effective for suicide. I have no idea how it works. Of course the situation is desperate, I don't think they will make you wait long.
