Very small vent..
I can't control how much I eat, I just, eat, without meaning too. I've tried so much to stop this and stop overeating but I can't.. when I start eating, and I finish what I'm eating, I look for something else to eat. It hasn't at all made me overweight.. I just hate the fact that I can't really control how much food I eat, it sucks.

Please, if anyone relates to this or has advice for me.. I'd like that. I've struggled with this for all my life, and I just want to be able to eat a normal meal without overeating.

I'm so sorry, this sounds rough. I sometimes have food issues, though the opposite of what you seem to be experiencing: I have no appetite.
What do you think of mindfulness while eating? Chewing more slowly, being more aware of the tastes and textures of the food you're eating, that kind of thing? This could make someone more aware of how full they are already. May I ask if you have distractions during mealtimes too? Like, are you watching tv, reading a book, or are engrossed in a conversation with others while eating? That could impact our mealtime experience.

I could try being more mindful, that'd probably help a bit, thank you.
And yes, I am often distracted during mealtime/eating, usually watching videos, or talking to someone, but sometimes I still overeat when I have nothing to distract me from noticing how full I am.

Yep I boredom eat. I always ate kinda fast (not fun being at table when dad is going to explode and you sit next to him) and the Marines made fast eating the norm. But when I'm bored at work I snack and eat. Adderall seems to have helped with my eating I feel. I also chew on gum and coffee stir straws to overcome the oral part, same I did when I quit smoking. It's all not 100% for me but I have noticed the habit is less.

I can't promise it'll help, but you could try focusing on eating. I know I used to eat while watching shows or playing games or anything at all really, and I wouldn't feel full 'cause it's like my brain hadn't processed that I'd been eating as it was too focused on the other thing.

I don't know if it'll help, but I wish you luck.

Try sport, weightlifting, Bodybuilding then you get another eating disorder the first few years but you can eat a lot without gaining fat, that was my way, I love to eat and massacre allyoucaneats and that helped a lot, after years of force feeding I can barely keep my weight without atleast eating some sweet stuff once a day

I would say I suffered from binge eating disorder (BED) at a few points in my life and I've never had a very good relationship with food.

What you are describing does sound like it could be binge eating- you don't feel in control of it. Do you restrict at all? Or, purge (make yourself sick.) Some people get trapped in this terrible cycle of overeating- then, starving themselves the next day or days because they feel guilty and don't want to gain weight- which- ironically makes them far more likely to overeat when they do start eating again. So- my first bit of advice would be to not start restricting/ starving yourself if you are tempted to. Doing that also buggers up your brain chemistry- because your brain believes that you REALLY are starving- so it will make you want to eat more- and will try and store those calories when you do eat again.

I read the book 'Brain Over Binge' by Kathryn Hansen a few years back and I remember it being useful. There are also lots of YouTube videos on eating disorders. I'm not saying you definitely have one. I'm not entirely sure I did. I was never officially diagnosed. Still- I resonated with a lot of the symptoms they describe and I think you might too- the feeling of being out of control is very typical. It's horrible as well- I know. I feel really bad for you.

For me- there were definitely trigger foods that would set me off on a binge. Foods high in sugar, salt and fat tend to do it- processed foods. They actually design them to make you want more- bastards! I actually found that it wasn't 'safe' for me to even buy certain foods because I would eat the lot.

It's kind of going to depend on just how bad your situation is and how far you want to go to stop it. I made a change years ago to eat a far more natural diet- mainly vegetables, lean protein and complex carbohydrates. It was actually from another book: The Food Doctor Everyday Diet by Ian Marber. After maybe 5 weeks, I guess my body was free of all the processed crap and I no longer craved it. Of course- I've relapsed since then but thankfully- for a while at least, I haven't actually outright binged- although, I regularly overeat and am overweight as a result.

I really hope you can be kind to yourself and get yourself through this. I do know how awful it is. I wish you all the very best.

Yes, I do sometimes restrict myself. After overeating or binging I don't eat for possibly 19 hours or more, then I eat again. I have also made myself puke my food up before, out of guilt, but not many times.

I don't really have any specific foods that trigger my overeating, anything can make me binge, even vegetable and fruit foods.

I have been trying to be more slow with how I eat (I eat very fast.) and try to be more mindful when I am eating, and it's helped a bit.

Thank you for the advice, you are a very kind person. I also wish you the best, I hope life treats you well. <3

fruit has plenty of fiber and fills you up relatively quickly. drinking a lot of water and tea helps with making you feel full. do you have any medication that screws with your appetite? what kind of food do you eat?

Yes. I ate a loaf of cinnamon bread in 1 day out of boredom and to distract myself.

The only medication I take is birth control. I usually eat whatever, I can't really think of what I generally eat in a day, if I think of something I'll let you know.

The problem is, even with veggies and fruit, I'll binge on those too. Thank you though. ❤️

asking because high fructose corn syrup and msg increase appetite, which is more often than not found in junk food. could it be medication or hormone imbalance that's doing it then? the only suppressants for it (appetite) i know are psychoactive substances which are probably not the best for it, as for the rest of those "magical pills" i have my doubts on them working. after seeing that you restrict i would highly advise against it, as going cold turkey will make you shoot back up and relapse at the slightest whiff of food. i know it's not the easiest to achieve, but one step at a time with slowly decreasing the amount you eat. i wish you the best of luck in controlling those urges.

Drinking more water is sometimes helpful for me. Sometimes I eat but I'm actually just thirsty. According to what I've read, men should drink about 3.7 liters of water a day and I know that I am often drinking a lot less.
