There seems to be a belief in society that an adult who has never had sex or doesn't masturbate must be someone suffering some mental disorder and living in their parents basement. Can you be successful socially and job wise while still never getting in a relationship or engaging in any form of sexual activity?

I had a good career and a house before I lost it all. Thanks to meds, I don't have any sex drive, not even when I'm alone. I just have no feelings towards it, this has changed since I started on psych meds. I used to have a high sex drive.

I don't see why not...? I don't think sex has anything to do with being a successful human being.

Unfortunately, no, in the LARGE majority of cases.

Sex is one of the most important parts of social interaction contrary to what those with out a drive, a loss of, or means will say.

Sex is almost literally all were made for.

Lack thereof will diminish our feeling of accomplishment or ability.

It depends on your perspective and personality. Some people have a high drive/ambition/passion and do not in fact spend much time thinking about sex, others feel that they need it, and still others are asexual. Sex, however, is clearly not like food or sleep, without which a human dies. Our beliefs about sex and its importance are probably about as important as our biology, which clearly sets it up as a primary urge. It would be difficult for most people to wean themselves off a high sex-drive, but probably not impossible, and masturbation is an effective means of taking the edge off sexual desire.

They probably still jack it, occasionally, behind cloistered corners? But yes, abstention from sexual intercourse is completely possible for a large majority of humanity without particularly negative effects. It's not like most people have much of a choice when it comes to sexual partners anyway, especially average males with minimal finances (or women in arranged marriages, etc...). Long-term marriages are renowned for being often sexless.

Well yea we're animals after all, no matter how people wana deny that fact. Our consciousness doesn't make us any better then any other animal. This fact has become self evident through our behavior.

Just watchout for those glasses unless you have some windshield wipers.

I definitely think it's possible. Hell, it may help you be even better adjusted and more focused. Sex can get in the way of so many things and influence you to make bad decisions when it comes to relationships. Even taking a break can make it that much better. It did for me after a year without and it was nice having none of the drama it comes with during that time. Although having a super high sex drive can be a curse. Now it's that much harder going without but maybe it's a good thing. Starting to get used to it again. Plus you have enough bad experiences it can kinda ruin it for you. So, it's overrated, meaningless, and even detrimental to mental and emotional wellbeing if you don't have a healthy way to experience those things. But it can also be amazing and addicting.

Totally relate. I used to have a high sex drive. I could find it easily, but I don't need the drama. It's nice without the drama. I think I am accustomed to zero drama now. I think I may stay sexless forever, maybe, ..because I don't have the drama. The consequences (emotional pain, potential pregnancy, contraceptives which cause hormonal problems in females, STD's...etc.) are not worth the short duration of the orgasm, in my opinion...So I gave up on it completely a couple years back....

This is basically sex in a nutshell (no pun intended). The entire pursuit (and this includes hours of porn gazing) is not worth the reward, a very brief climax of several seconds. I say masturbate and be done with it, and worry about something else. It's just that we humans are like all animals, machines trained to focus on the most basic algorithms, food and sex. Fortunately or otherwise, we can train ourselves away from the rigged games life sets us up to play. Few people want to do this however, but I think most of them are unaware of what's causing them grief in the first place, the desire for unsatisfied desires--it's not like any bourgeois Western culture really emphasizes "ascetic" self-restraint; we're all encouraged to run the treadmill until turning into worm-food.
