Time To Wake Up

Bus stop
Who knew how long I had been walking in circles
My face turned to the ground
Picking up pennies and dimes
Is this what I'm looking for ??
"Maybe" I'd tell myself, head shaking no
Hope and ambitions
Wonders and dreams
Where were they ??
Everyone says they're here
Here on the concrete where we spit and piss
It doesn't feel that way
Nothing feels like anything
Not the coins in my pocket
Not the hole they fall out of
Not the ticket that I ignore
Oh, but the ticket !!
It was always there, and always would be
And what was once scary is now comforting to the touch
Notice how I can look up, eyes crusted
To finally see where we gather
I saw and felt the rain, and the cold that traveled on it
The way it drenched my skin, chilled my soul
I spread my arms, others spread their umbrellas
I'd never blame them, but I'd never be them
I'd be with them though
Here where the sky's tears mixed with ours
We huddled and told our traumas
Through cracked lips we asked
"How will you step onboard ??"
And when that metal box of glory finally came
Right on time for some, a bit too early for the rest
With gentle goodbyes we waved them away
Into the blackest night of which there was nothing but freedom
Who knew how long I had been walking in circles
My face turned to the ground
Picking up pennies and dimes
Is this what I'm looking for ??
"Maybe" I'd tell myself, head shaking no
Hope and ambitions
Wonders and dreams
