I want to break my finger because it will get me out of doing university work. Is there a painless way I can break my finger? I am alone in the house, I have the hammer with me and everything but I am too much of a pussy to break my own finger because I am scared it will be painful.

Breaking your finger will always be painful. I would prioritize your personal health over your studies...it is far more important. I wish I had done so when I was in college.

Hi friend, this sounds a bit counter productive. Why harm your body and you mind?
What's wrong? Why don't you want to do your work?

Get an extension on the work for mental health?

If you asked for this where I went to school, it would usually result in the teacher getting mad at you for trying to gain an "unfair advantage". It's worth a try and I don't mean to be discouraging...just expressing my frustration at how unaccommodating they can be. Hopefully other universities handle it differently.

My university wasn't very accommodating when I asked for an extension on the work due to my mental health. They wouldn't give it to me. I know it will be painful to put the hammer to my finger but I wanted to know if there were any pain medications I could take to mitigate the pain.
I don't understand why everyone is putting sad reacts on my post. I do not feel sad or in pain in any way. I just want to get out of doing university work.

I don't want to do my work because I literally can't focus on school work anymore. Sometimes, I see things and I hear voices, which makes it hard for me to focus. I tried asking for mental health accommodations but no one would give it to me. They told me they thought I was trying to gain advantage over my other classmates and what I am asking for is not fair. Asking this question is my very last resort. I didn't want to get to this point.

If you go to a psychiatrist and say you're hearing voices, then take a letter, they should have to give you special considerations as far as I know.

This might be a better option.
I understand that you are desperate OP, but that's a bit too extreme for this problem and you might regret it your whole life.

But how exactly will breaking a finger get you out of doing schoolwork?
Why not just drop out or get kicked out, then you won't have to do any more schoolwork at all?

You can use a doctor's note to apply for student disability services, which allows for extra time on exams and assignments. That's the only way they're required to accommodate you, at least in the US. The application and approval process is lengthy though, and you need thorough documentation (one doctor's note may not be enough). Usually it needs to be done before the start of the semester you need accommodations for. It's worth looking into though.

Back during my army days - which is mandatory conscription of 3 years. I knew 2 mates that broke their legs on purpose to avoid tough vocations postings.

Till today they regret doing so. Because depending how it heals, some after effects can last a long time - even a lifetime. One has constant pain and walks with a limp.

If it's to escape a temporary problem. I highly suggest you not to do it. Like other members shared, there are other ways around. Cheers

You don't feel sad or in pain in any way?
That's an odd statement to come across on this kind of forum...

You should still be able to get an extension for mental health if there are problems there..do you see anyone who can give a note?
But you're not even saying it's because of the mental health issue, you just don't want to do the work?
I am very confused..
Is the assignment mentally distressing for you to complete or you just don't feel like doing it?

Might as well just fake the broken finger at this point.
I doubt that's going to solve anything though. I broke my whole wrist/hand in grade school, my writing one, and I still had to find a way to do all my work. That wasn't even the big leagues.
Even if you broke every finger on both hands, you might be told to get someone go write/type for you. Since you can still talk.

The semester is almost about to end, so the university cannot do anything even if I have a doctor's note. I didn't have accommodations in the beginning of the semester because my medicine was working. Now, its not and I am hearing voices and seeing things and now its too late for accommodations :/

@Monster I don't want to be kicked out of university or drop out. I worked very hard to get back to school.

Hearing voices may be psychosis, any mental health evaluation should conclude that you need accomodations
