How likely am I to suffer brain damage or loss of function as a result of an unsuccessful hanging attempt?

Looking to CTB and no other methods are available to me aside from the partial hanging (The ceilings are too low and I'm too tall).

Any recommendation on which resources to consult (read through the megathread first posts already) or maybe what rope/pose/technique to use?

It can happen. If you get unconscious with a strong rope and anchor point you're probably dead, but only probably. I don't know if there's much more info out there than that.

I guess it really depends. There is a chance of it for sure but if alone and done correctly I think you'd be a goner pretty quickly.
My cousin tried hanging but was found quickly. They were in a coma for months though, but it seems mostly cognitively fine just traumatized. It's crazy how some people get brain injuries and some people are mostly the same. I have another cousin who has tbi but manages pretty well considering. You wouldnt notice unless you were told. There's certainly different levels of brain damage. Some people recover and some dont. Ive had brain damage from multiple things I wont get into rn, I'm not the same person and have a hard af time functioning now.

Depends how long you're suspended. Brain damage happens quickly if you're fully without oxygen. I've treated patients who were basically vegetables after being found and brought back. You'd need to be suspended for at least 15 mins to be sure.
