So, I've been randomly browsing Google for shocking stories, and came across a few stories regarding the suicides of teens from playing a game called "Blue Whale" after researching all that I can about this dark weird game, I was curious to see just how real it was and tried looking for the game, but have failed to do so, not being able to find the game myself! maybe for the best. But my Q is, can people really be influenced so severely to the point of suicide by a online game? I know children/teens are impressionable, but surely there must have been so much more to those teens who ended their lives, whilst playing "Blue Whale"? would adults be more wise as to not follow such a game? even in their time of distress, proving much wiser than teens OR would adults be influenced by the game too? I'm just curious. I think the game has now been destroyed, or at least I would hope it has. I've heard there is a sister game called "pink whale" that's focused on positivity rather than death etc...
That's gotta be better than the alternative, right?

If someone told me to kill myself I'd likely do the opposite lol

I would say yes they could be, there are many documented cases of people being driven to end it by online bullying and abuse. There is another thread relating to this about the girl decapitated by the train who was apparently involved in the blue whale game.

Oh I definately know online bullying and harassment is the main cause for a lot of youngsters killing themselves, but I just mean for no other reason than playing a "trendy game" so easily influenced were these kids, it's shocking. I will find the other thread. Thank you.

I agree! it's the only time I'd not be happy to end my life, I hate when others tell me what to do, when it's against my own will. So I feel the game would have zero effect on me personally. Even though I'm suicidal half the time..Ha.

I thought this thread was going to be about people swimming with blue whales and then holding on when they dive really deep.

Blue Whale is definately NOT fake. Quite a lot of teens have killed themselves playing this game, mostly in Russia. I'm not sure if the government have cracked down and put a stop to the game, but it was real. Sadly.

Based on what I've read the game is like alternate reality if I remember it right and at the end of the game or the last objective was to kill one's self.

Humour at the contrast between what I thought the thread was gonna be about and what it really is tinged with sadness of the content. :(

I must say I don't see much incentive for potential players to go along with it. Apparently there is some element of blackmail involved? Even then I say who cares. I'd rather have my dirty laundry out in the open than undergo 50 days of assignment bullshit, but then I'm not 14. Having just looked it up, it also says there are no confirmed deaths as a result of the game. So I would take this whole thing with a grain of salt.

I agree and I think it can also be a way for parents and opportunistic politicians to blame the internet alone for their suicides, instead of bad mental health care and other stuff

That's never a good idea, many people saying something doesn't necessarily make it true.

Blue Whale: What is the truth behind an online 'suicide challenge'?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-46505722

Most likely the most plausible explanation, though it doesn't detract from the fact that the girl still CTB for whatever reason.

You are right. I'm a little more introvert than most, so find it easier to agree and yo along...Maybe I should try following my own path with my own opinions
