Bed Bath & Beyond CFO Jumps to His Death After Struggling Retailer Forced to Close 150 Stores

"Bed Bath & Beyond CFO Gustavo Arnal, 52, jumped to his death from the 18th floor of the 'Jenga Building' in New York City.

"Last Wednesday Bed Bath & Beyond announced it will be closing 150 stores as it struggles to restructure its business.

"'The chief financial officer of troubled Bed Bath & Beyond has been identified as the man who jumped to his death from the iconic new Tribeca skyscraper known as the "Jenga Building,' The Post has learned.

"Gustavo Arnal, 52, who was also an executive vice president for the struggling home goods retailer, plunged from the 18th floor of 56 Leonard Street on Friday, police sources said.

"The 60-story building is best known for its purposely misaligned apartments stacked atop each other, resembling the popular game "Jenga."
Messages left with Bed Bath & Bed and Arnal's family Saturday were not immediately returned."

"On Aug. 16, Arnal sold 42,513 shares in company stock for a little over a $1 million, according to MarketBeat.com."

He must have been incredibly desperate. To do that. Situation must have looked incredibly hopless to him. Means he must have done something incredibly wrong, perhaps to the point above poster referred. Read his wife was in the building when he jumped. How traumatic that must be for her.

I was also wondering why. Suicide to show loyalty and responsibility seems very Eastern culture, more often seen in Korea and Japan.

He hasn't been found guilty of anything, and even if he did do something wrong no one deserves this. RIP.

Odd...an executive went out a window to his death that was not associated with Putin.

Too bad for him anyway. He must have been up to his neck in trouble. We all have choices to make.

I always assumed elites got a slap on the wrist for insider trading. For example, Martha Stewart only ended up paying a large fine to the SEC and she didn't even formally admit to committing a crime in her official statement. Did a rather short stint in jail <6 mo, if I recall. Perhaps her situation was different because she is a celebrity, but I imagine there are legal loopholes to curb the worst of the legal ramifications. I can't help but wonder if he might have had other options.

Her situation was different because it was different. She acted on a tip from her broker, this guy defrauded investors. Allegedly.

Correct, he was part of a huge pump and dump scheme, he knew he was going to be arrested soon

The innocent don't jump out of 18 story buildings--He knew he was about to be arrested, this was a huge pump and dump scheme, he faced many years in prison

Martha went to jail for making less than truthful statements to investigators.

I worked there in their corporate office and they made my life a living hell. Convenient this thread would be revived when I started posting here.

See this if people don't believe me I'm being stalked and harassed into killing myself. Hence... why I'm here!
