  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Guess I gotta start looking for VPNs...damn it.

I googled what the act was and skim read this article and it's got it's flaws, to say the least:
1744280618395
This is really vague and seems like it's written that way so people can take down any website they seem as "illegal" by stretching one of these. I suspect "promoting or facilitating suicide" is where this website comes under but it's stupid because there's a difference between having somewhere to honestly vent with others (like a group therapy session) and cults telling you to jump off buildings.
1744280811790
Now this, is fucking stupid. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? Do they not know the dangers of doxxing?

First of all, stuff like "facial age estimation" just seems like a dodgy AI waiting to break and how can they tell the difference between someone who's 17 and someone who's 18 just based on their face? But stuff like "credit card checks" and "digital identity services" just seem like a scandal waiting to happen. Especially because of how many dodgy porn sites are out there, all it takes is 1 hacker and a porn site database to leak the sensitive personal info of thousands, if not millions of people. I can tell whoever came up with this was a 50 something year old who only uses the internet to like cat videos on Facebook and has no idea what the internet is actually like.

Not to mention, a lot of this act can be cut out and be replaced with "follow what you're kids are doing online" instead on having to rely on the government because this isn't going to change the internet for the better. No. Websites are just gonna block us brits (or set up scam sites to farm sensitive personal data) and VPNs with skyrocket.

(screenshot that goes "Requirement to carry out a children's access assessment. All user-to-user and search services – defined as 'Part 3' services – in scope of the act, must carry out a children's access assessment to establish if their service – or part of their service – is likely to be accessed by children. From today, these services have three months to complete their children's access assessments, in line with our guidance, with a final deadline of 16 April. Unless they are already using highly effective age assurance and can evidence this, we anticipate that most of these services will need to conclude that they are likely to be accessed by children within the meaning of the act. Services that fall into this category must comply with the children's risk assessment duties and the children's safety duties." in case it doesn't load)

Well, there goes basically every social media.

I'm so sick of living in a word run by idiots. Why can't they keep to themselves and instead use those resources to spread awareness on the dangers of the internet, especially for kids, and use the law to tackle with stuff like scam sites draining people's wallets.
I also want to add that the servers sometimes act up on my end and I'm not sure if that's down to the website itself or the government messing with my connection. Either way it's annoying as I couldn't upload the last screenshot. Couldn't access the website at all the other day for about an hour. Suppose this is the beginning of the end. Any VPN suggestions? (ones that don't require money)

Proton VPN, my friend. I personally trust Proton as an email provider so I opted for their free VPN as well. You can choose between servers in the US, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Japan. Or just get Tor.
Do they not know the dangers of doxxing?
Do you think they'll start doxing us? I get the context but I've been worrying about this lately.

Well, if someone is fucked up enough to expose millions of people in vulnerable positions then possibly. If they have the power to restrict access to this site based on IP address then I don't see it as a stretch.

But: if you've taken care that your IP address is the only piece of possibly identifying information you've given to this site, you should be fine. Many IP addresses are dynamic so they change all the time and thus they can't be used to ID a single user.

Now, it's more important for people to NEVER post their name, hometown or address here.

Got the proton vpn extension. Hopefully there should be no trouble...

Really should focus on my online privacy more now that I think about it. Suppose I'm a bit of a hypocrite.

Its all in effort "for the children".
All gov'ts in the past have used this as a means of doing just this......censoring ideas they don't like.

I get why they'd be against most of the things on that list.....
But why pornography, religious offense...and suicide discussion ? Why would a gov't care about these things?

Pornography.......the gov'ts are already selective about this. There are plenty of music videos, lyrics, websites, etc etc
How are they going to distinguish what violates anything over something else? Are they going to go thru every song, website, etc to check?
Im sure they have some sort of list to do this.....because there is a lot of money at stake for music corps, etc.

Religious offense.......a gov't determining what is an offense, can show preferential treatment of one group over another. Which is exactly what is going on in the UK at the moment with a certain religious group.. They want to make people quiet about topics they dont want the rest of the population to know about.
They've already jailed quite a few already. Wait till the UK becomes a caliphate....it will turn into a religious authoritarian hell.

Then there is the suicide issue......why the gov't cares whether one has ended themselves or not, is baffling. The rate in the UK is %0.011 or 11 out of 100,000 population.
Whats the reasoning behind this? Does the gov't get something out of it if one stays within the system?

damn now I feel shit. I mean, I don't wanna move because I love Britain (it's culture and stuff, fuck the politics) and it's in my soul but if they push me around too much then I'm gonna go look for somewhere better to live, which isn't ideal and also every country is crap at best and fucking dogshit at worst.

The plot thickens...

Luckily I have a little mate called "Proton VPN" that always goes to Amsterdam for some reason but hey, it's VPNing. It's the Firefox extension but idk if that's important or not as I know it has a program version as well.

Question is it really worth paying for a VPN? Surely Tor is enough on it's own?
