Before my CTB, I would consider disappearing, possibly going around the world. I would like to cut ties with everyone. I would have liked to know if other people had disappeared or still disappeared voluntarily. What precautions to take, to never be found? Should I go abroad? How to cross borders without being spotted?

Oh as long as it's something that you want, you can do it… Don't let anyone force you into doing it unless if that's what you really want. I do hope everything goes well for you with any decision that you choose in the end. Good luck

Even if they find you, you can say to cops that you are good, no one kidnapped you and you want your location to be confidential then cops will close the manhunt or case that you are okay and will tell your family that you are okay and won't say where you are because you are an adult

Its almost impossible in this day and age to disappear untraceable. You cannot carry a lot of cash on you for obvious reasons and anyone can trace tour bank transactions. Travel you use your passport and even if you change your name, it will be linked to your old name. You would have to stay in your country and travel somewhere remote which requires no ID and pay for it by cash. Never use your bank account and never contact anyone. Also you will need new burner phone. You can never switch old one on as that is traceable.

I wouldn't recommend going to such great lengths tbh, OP has just to do what's best for them but they don't need to do all of that, it just sound exhausting…

The only real way to do this is by avoiding any electronic footprint.
Only use cash.
Throw away your phone.
You would be better using a boat VS plane etc. Anyone with a sea fishing boat, if offered enough cash could get you to another country if you wanted to avoid passport control etc.

I'm going through a sort of "disappearance" right now actually. With so many people in my social circle trying to track me down right now, I've had to jump across my entire state. I thought flying under the radar would be easy, but it's not. If someone reports you as missing, that's a whole other problem.

Don't cut ties with people super quickly, it can raise their suspicions and make them just that much more obsessed over you. Also, really think about if this is what you want. It's hard to come back, so make sure you have a plan in mind. I'd deactivate my social medias, just to be safe. If you drive somewhere, you could also be recognized by your car. I'm not sure how severe or how far you're planning on taking your disappearance, but it's better to be safe than sorry. If you fear that people will actively be looking for you, you could change your appearance. Dyeing your hair, wearing contacts, glasses, hats, etc.

It's hard to just disappear. It takes time, thought, and patience. It's a long and grueling process that requires lots of thought beforehand. Take the time to calculate a plan, save money to travel, slowly lose relationships, and tie off any other loose ends. If this is what you want, know that it'll most likely be a long-term decision.

As the other replies have pointed out, it is extremely difficult to disappear completely, unless you were to live as a hermit in the woods like this guy did. Any financial transaction you might make could be tracked, and if you ran out of money youd have to resort to burglary to make a living, which would draw attention to you.

However, It's fairly easy to move somewhere where your friends and family could not find you, as the police cant give them your location as long as your are an adult and have a clean psychiatric record.

Um. Your post is just nonsense. If op wants to be untraceable there is no other way. Obviously, to make a statement like that you must have more ideas? I'd love to hear them. I've spent a long time researching this subject as I would not want to be traceable. Looking forward to reading your simpler idea.

Op asked for advice and I offered my two cents and I wasn't talking to you …. Do your own research if you want to be untraceable don't ask me. Why would you want for my ideas if my post is nonsense hahah

You missed the sarcasm. You put down the idea but offered no advice and actually if you read my post properly. You would see I've already done research. It's called irony.

What you're suggesting isn't easy given how people leave digital footprints almost everywhere these days. If you're going abroad your passport will most likely be flagged at entry and exit points. Your smartphone will be pinging towers and constantly updating your location. This doesn't take into consideration your online accounts especially google which will also record your location at specified intervals. This info will be accessible to police if someone decides to file a missing persons report on you. Carrying large amounts of cash is impractical. Credit and ATM cards can be easily tracked. Unless you're willing to go off the grid completely with the help of unscrupulous characters your chances of disappearing completely in 2023 are remote.

You should look into the "yonige-ya" business in Japan. They help people to vanish completely. It's a thing called "jouhatsu". It can cost 450 USD.

Sometimes we need to have time to our self. But other times perhaps we just really want to see if anyone would care enough to come looking.

Thankfully I know the answer is 'nobody will'. I was laid off from work, and at the start I would message the people I know - so many promises of help!

I stopped messaging. The only person who checks in on me is family. At least I know enough that disappearing and leaving is the right choice. I see now people I thought were friends weren't, and at least I know. I don't waste time thinking of them, and it will be one less thing to feel anything about.
