Are there any quotes/ideas/works that help you feel at ease+comfort with the idea of suicide?

Alan Watts- Suicide helps but that's all I can find

I've never looked and have no desire to.
Suicide is a deeply personal and internal process that, in my opinion, should never be influenced by anyone else's experience, words or ideas.

If you're not at ease with it, then something in you is simply not ready to go.
If that's the case, there are many resources to try to find ways to reduce your suffering that are not lethal or permanent.

I watched some Dignitas videos of assisted suicide, it looked peaceful and though SN isn't exactly that, it did help me. I have a fear for the pain part, stupid as it sounds because what does pain matter when its over in a few minutes.

Nothing gives me ease/comfort with whole idea of suicide, although I dont wish to live and keep trying to work out best way to go, the whole thing scares and bewilders me. I think we all view and cope with it differently. I do wonder though if the only peaceful and good way to do it is with controlled assisted means like a clinic like Dignitas. If I chose a method and stuck to it, I would be doing it alone and that scares me for all sorts of reasons, yet natural death doesn't really.
There must be alot of resources out there, although saying that its not a subject anyone could feel at ease with, not even those of us who are in the situation. There are those who say they feel at ease, but for me, I cant somehow.

Articles and the like actually had the opposite effect on me. A few years ago when I was looking into suicide and doing research I ended up getting caught up in those pieces on why you shouldn't do it ect. ect. and in my very messed up emotional state it was enough to make me not want to do it as much. But it also made me really angry at the time because I feel like I got cheated. That is a very roundabout way to say no the only ideas that help are mine. I look forward to my suffering ending and these thoughts give me peace of mind.

It's not stupid. It can be a pain nothing like anything you've experienced before.

I've also never looked into it, but it's an interesting idea. The only thing I've looked into is near death experiences

My death space helps comfort me. It shows all these people who suicided or died by murder and accidents. I'm like please let me not be on there but gives me comfort seeing people of all ages who ctb. It's sad but also helps me realize all these pple were not irrational. Many looked like they had stable lives and not mentally ill.

Reading authors who have committed suicide or have felt the same despair as you. It helps me feel less crazy for having these death thoughts.

Or the pain can be just a minor aspect of the whole experience - don't scare the lady, @Sensei my sweet! I feel like I don't mind some pain as long as nothing is expected of me - I don't have to look lovely or be gracious or struggle to contain a fart. But what if it's like being catapulted into ... I don't know ... a Ru Paul competition where I have 20 minutes to outdo 11 other people who all know what they're doing and I'm not only in pain but haven't a clue what's expected of me? That could be trouble.

But I digress. Sorry. Alan Watts knows his stuff.

I'm not trying to scare her. I speak out of own experience. There are methods which prevent agony and pain, so why take any risks? Everyone here has suffered so much already and deserves to leave in peace.

@Soul, I think @Sensei, had a good point, that being afraid of pain is only natural, especially when one does not know what exactly to expect. And to be honest with SN there are mixed reports, it is mostly peaceful, but people will react differently to it. Even if you do it 100% correct, there may still be some discomfort or pain, how much and what it is like is unknown.

Everyone is afraid of the unknown. It's natural. But when it's time, it's time.

"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."

Got Mark Twain to thank for that one. It has become a bit of a mantra and greatly helps with the fear of death. Reminds me I'm just a sack of hydrogen and carbon that by fluke of chemistry is able to temporarily understand its own misery.

There are many sources and ideas that have put me at ease with the idea of death (including my own personal philosophy and reasoning). A few that comes to mind are: Martin Manley's website (a guy who was well off and still relatively healthy too, he decided to CTB at the exact age of 60, under his own terms), Keith Emerson was a successful musician and also a legend back in the days where electronic rock music was hot (think 70's/80's), and of course, Daniel James, an English rugby player who went off to Dignitas to seek assisted suicide after his practice related injury that left him a quadriplegic.

@Sensei and @chris8000, apologies for being flippant. Of course death might be a lot of things, painful or beautiful, imaginable or not, more familiar than anything ever or completely unlike anything we know. The op seems to be looking for something like assurance, so I wanted to spend a little time on the possibilities that it might be warm and welcoming, all our favourite souls congratulating us on finally getting there.

Lord know how Ru Paul got into it. o.0

I definitely believe that suicide can be a beautiful and liberating experience for people who do it for the right reasons, in their right minds, and at the right time. We can't get passed the fact that the method matters, though. I think it's very difficult to feel at peace if you throw yourself in front of a roaring train.

I agree - but some people feel angry or guilt-ridden or desperate and don't want peace; they just want out. As I've noted I'm ok with *some* pain, if I know it won't last long. I'm not sure what kind of misgivings @reapandsow918 is having - can you tell us a bit more?

So I was raised in a cult to believe in heaven and hell as an abstract. However when you die there is nothing, then you may be brought back to life to live on paradise earth. I do not nor never believe that. I however do believe in reincarnation/past lives. I have about 6 that I know of. I've never lived this old before. I don't believe how I was in one life effects the next. For me it's either oblivion or reincarnation again (which I will see some that I know now again in that next life). I do like the concept that my friends that have already passed being there waiting for me. When one friend passed of cancer years ago not long after Wes craven passed away. I'm like that woman is hanging it with one of the greatest horror directors ever and loving it. My concepts and ideas are all over the place but I prefer them to my current situation.
