Firearms, as you said, are an easy (even if violent) way to go, and USA is one of the best places for that, I hear.
Besides that, I don't think it's that much better than other places. You can get/import SN here in Europe too (one of the most popular sources is european, after all), and I don't think welfare checks are that common, really, compared with the USA (depends of the country, I suppose). I never got one despite everyone knows I'm suicidal. And I'm not sure what do you mean with "less support networks". Are you worried they send you to a hospital?
While the USA is kinda individualistic, I feel like it's not too prochoice. There are other countries where euthanasia and assisted suicide is legal, and even if they will still try to stop you if you try to ctb without being really sick, it's still cool, I think. At least, if something goes really wrong and you are in extreme and untreatable pain, a doctor can finish the work for you.
In summary, if you want to leave the USA to improve your life, I wouldn't worry about CTB. There are still ways, people CTB continuously in every country, and you can't know if things will change when the moment comes, anyway, maybe it will get harder to get SN in the USA and easier in somewhere else. And, if you really wanted to get a gun to do it, maybe you could move again? If you were born there, you should be able to easily return, I don't know if your circumstances would stop you.
Thanks so much; this is a super thoughtful response and very, very helpful! I'd really like to try moving because I'm so close to ctb'ing anyway I might as well try, and your response helped me realize I shouldn't let fear of ctb being more difficult elsewhere hold me back.
You're right, I totally forgot that assisted suicide is more common in some very well developed European countries and probably easier to access if I'm somewhere in Europe. And yes, as a U.S. citizen I can come back here any time and off myself with a gun, lol.
I keep hearing about welfare checks for people ordering SN to the UK, but I'm not really considering the UK so it's probably not an issue. And there are likely ways around it even if they are common in whatever country I end up in. SN is my chosen method at this point which is why I'm concerned. I have it on hand here in the US but I doubt that I could bring it over to Europe (or maybe I could? I suppose it depends on the country.. it is used for meat curing after all)
By "less support networks" I mean the government doesn't monitor people all that much. Actually you can get 5150ed (sent to the mental hospital) very easily in the U.S. because it's a very pro-therapy/psychiatry culture so if I gave that impression with my phrasing I apologize. What I meant is more that they don't seem to track you as much. For example, it is relatively easy to jump from doctor to doctor getting various prescription medications even if one doctor has denied you because they suspect you're misusing them, lol. That's probably because it's a for-profit healthcare system here. If you have money you can get just about any prescription medication you want, I think, by going to doctors and paying privately. Records are not shared. Also they don't really prosecute for petty crimes like possession of illegal substances in small amounts as long as you're not selling to others, so it's pretty easy to try OD'ing many times on illegal opioids, RCs, or whatever. You're absolutely right though that the USA is very NOT pro-choice, very anti-suicide, which is why it's easy to get 5150ed. I imagine that Japan would be better, or as you said, the countries where it's legal like Switzerland or whereever Dignitas / Pegasos are located. Very good point; thank you. I totally agree with you it would be a comfort to know that if I was in intractable pain that the country I was in would allow for assisted suicide - that's a lot better than it being totally illegal.
"you can't know if things will change when the moment comes, anyway, maybe it will get harder to get SN in the USA and easier in somewhere else" This is a really good point; laws change all the time. A change in president, even, can dramatically change the situation.
The only country that offers the easiest way to CTB is Switzerland. It does not matter if you are a foreigner or a citizen of the country. Also EU citizen do not need a visa to live there. They have free movement through Schengen Agreement.
The difficult though of Switzerland is that the law actually allows anyone above 18 and of sound of mind to have access to assisted suicide. But the medical doctors how have to be involved so you get the medications make the real restrictions.
But If one has 10K USD to spare and some arguments and issues you can really good argue with then its the easiest option.
The out of the box would be India or Bolovia, Peru getting actually prescription medication through a veterinary store that does not care.
These are great points, thanks. How easy do you think would it be to ship and keep on hand nembutal if one were to visit India or a South American country?
