I take an SSRI at a low dose as a sleeping aid. My psychiatrist won't prescribe me other sleeping aids, but I want to go off SSRIs.

I was on antidepressants from 15-24 (I'm 25 now). I was told that when I came off them I came across as more lively and alert, but at the same time I've also internally felt ten times worse (and now wanting to research partial suspension)

I tried Prozac and various other antidepressants but found them to be counterproductive. They didn't lessen my depression/anxiety, however they did make it impossible for me to orgasm. :-/

I ended up giving up on antidepressants. I have heard that they've helped many people though.

Started Wellbutrin now moving to 300 mg Hoping for the best
I have been on so many AD meds with noxious side effects. I liked the old MAOIs. They were truly helpful unfortunately I became allergic to Nardil which had likely saved my life. I had to discontinue Marplan because they stopped making it since few people used it. I tried Parnate recently but I found it to produce too many side effects including hypertension.
I understand why many people hate meds but were it not for Nardil and Marplan, I doubt I'd be alive today.

Your downhill is probably caused by withdraw from the antidepressant. Keep in mind the placebo of antidepressants is always a higher percentage than the actual treatment in the treatment of depression. Ie the effect may be 80% placebo and 20% the drug. Antidepressants effective rates are very disappointing with Ivan Kirch(head placebo researcher at Harvard arguing his meta analysis prove antidepressants are equal to a palcebo) While I disagree with Ivan Kirsch- the studies clearly prove treatment options such as exercise are generally as effective as the drug itself for most forms of depression and anxiety.

Dude, right?! Even with some incredibly valiant efforts, it was impossible with one of the SSRIs I was on. Wtf?! Lol.

I'm on 400 mg of Wellbutrin now for neuropathic pain. But I've found that it has improved my motivation and mood a little bit. I mean, not to where I'm a normal person, but now I shower more frequently and keep my apartment a little cleaner even when someone isn't coming over. I've also used it to quit smoking 2x in the past, and it totally works for that.

I was just put on Prozac the other day. Is this going to fuck my head up too? Because I really don't want that to happen.

I have heard positive things about Wellbutrin. I wonder if it is expensive without insurance? I'm going to mention it to my doctor the next time I go. (As for the SSRIs I've tried, taking away one of life's greatest pleasures definitely did not serve to decrease the severity of my depression...plus it's how I get myself to sleep most nights haha)

☝️ Absolutely! I wouldn't still be here today if it wasn't for marijuana. Smoking calms my mind. It's relief rolled up in a blunt.

HA! Right?! Totally. You know, I don't know. There is a generic, so that should help, but I guess you can say that for most medications now.

The price depends on where you live. In Europe the average price for it is +- 20 euro for 30 tablets. It's available under the names: Wellbutrin, Bupropion and Zyban.

Thank you for the info! :-) I'm going to do some research on the pricing since I live in the US. You can usually look that stuff up online to get a rough idea. Thanks again!

I've been taking Wellbutrin for over 10 years. It worked great and I didn't gain any weight on it like I did on all the others. I think i'm going to have to switch to Cymbalta next though, it's supposed to be good for depression and nerve pain, and I have both now.

I'm also on Wellbutrin. It worked at first, and now I don't feel it's stimulant effects anymore. Hence, I'm here researching...

I took it for many years, started at probably 25, and took till like age 35. I don't even know how I came off but I did taper. It might have took the edge off but it did nothing to solve problems or improve my life in any significant way. It may have actually harmed me because I had hypomanic episodes. I would be impulsive and reckless on it, which is supposed to be the opposite of what happens. While on the med I couldn't see my behavior changes that clearly. Or I didn't put it together that it might be the medication. I decided to take myself off it because I learned that a lot of these meds are actually not good for u and can cause longterm damage. Don't get me started on how adderall can wreck your life lol! Should be called legal meth because it's very much like that.
