I've been waking up in the middle of the night with pretty bad anxiety. Don't know why it's happening, but I need it to stop. I can pop a Klonopin and rest easy after that but I prefer not having to rely on it so frequently.

My anxiety is from nausea (I'm an emetophobe) and I've tried breathing exercises, some ASMR for anxiety, and binaural beats for nausea relief.

I would also appreciate tips on sleeping through the night without waking up, if y'all have any. I take melatonin right now to help me fall asleep.

Long deep breaths, even longer exhales and repeat. This gets me to sleep but never works when I wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety. Maybe it will help you. The problem is getting calm enough to do it.

When I'm anxious I try a number of things. Some work sometimes, at other times some don't work.
Breathing exercises - helps sometimes. Sometimes I can't concentrate.
Watch videos, read - works sometimes but I sometimes I don't find them interesting so they don't work.
Origami - works sometimes, sometimes I don't feel like doing it
Cleaning, cooking - works sometimes.

Hope you find something that works for you. Anxiety can take over our minds and it's not pleasant. I'm sorry it's interrupting your sleep too.

Stop feeling bad if you wake up at night like « i should be sleeping right now », there is no « should », give yourself some time and a routine to relax and go back to sleep when you want to. Have you tried stretching ? It's a bit like breathing exercise, if you can focus enough and hang on to the light discomfort of it, you forget about things. Reading, too, even only a couple of lines, next time it's going to be a page, next thing you know yoûre reading the entire book. It's all about focusing and slowing down, slowing down the heart rate, slowing down the muscular tension, focusing on something, the weight on your shoulders, the feeling of oppression fades.
Again, start with stopping feeling guilty about being awake late at night, there is no reason.

Fully accepting everything provides relief for me, even the really shitty bits. Not really a long term solution (for me anyway) but it helps in the short term.

Fighting against anything that makes you anxious is guaranteed to make you more anxious. Try and accept and float through it.

Stretching with breathing exercises works for me! I use YouTube as a guidance. Thaiflow and Shaolin Temple Europe are my favorites, but search using terms like tai chi, qi gong, and you'll find lots of good videos. I never sleep the whole night through, but I have a kid, and I always need to go to the toilet at least one time. I also watch Netflix until I fall asleep.

When overthinking at night, I have this dream scenario I "go to". It's a farm with horses, like in the wild west. It calms me down.

hey, I have a phobia of blood which makes me extremely anxious (sweating and hyperventilating). The only thing that helped me is L-Tryptophan. take care.

find or watch something that can make you laugh. Deep breathing doesn't work for me and neither does thinking MORE about the issues. The only thing that momentarily helps me forget is when I'm watching something that makes me laugh.

This works, it's a form of mindfulness that requires a bit of concentration.
Sit up, put right hand on left knee, left hand on right knee.
In synch as you breathe in tense left leg and right shoulder, breathe out as you relax the muscles.
Repeat with other side.
Takes a couple of minutes to work

Aparently this is the way to cure anxiety but I have no idea how to do it cos my mind is so wired up to oh god, I can't cope, I hate this and then I start feeling suicidal, which is a real great thing to have happen because I dont want to commit suicide when I'm not anxious. It's just that I'm anxious most of the day because I ruminate about being anxious and how it's ruining my life

For me, breathing, exercises, working, meditating, relaxing, praying, teas, food, games, walks, videos, guides, books, all of them do not work, at all. Anxiety gets much worse with any of those, ironically.

I don't know what to do anymore. Everything sucks nowdays.

Stretching and breathing work for me too. Not always but still. Very important everyone : stretch your hamstrings, it makes a world of difference to the mind, the feeling of fatigue.
