Just out of curiosity, any of you are located in Hong Kong or nearby regions such as China, Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, etc? If you are, please do not feel shy and say hi. It is an extremely lonely existence out here...

I hope I can keep my sanity intact as I am in tremendous pain right now. Luckily(?) I have an U.S. passport but between places I am unsure which is more "bearable"(in my poor perspective anyway).

I have no idea. All I know is China censors hard and a well-known example, Facebook definitely isn't a government approved website. My friend in China has to use VPN to get to her FB account(that she set up during her travel overseas). She can still login for now but she said it wouldn't be a surprise to her if she gets online less.

@thebrinkimdriven I spoke to one who's located precisely in my city. And thank you—-very kind of you. I want to see if I am able to reach more people in HK/surrounding regions. In Asia, with perhaps the exception of Taiwan, our approach to mental health is not progressive at all. It is still a big shame for many parents to admit their child is different. I hope @disabledandhopeless has a reasonably sized support network wherever s/he is.

I'm in New Zealand. Been planning to defect to the west since I was 17. I'm 26 now.

Hard to pick between HK/US in terms of corona situation.
US will depend on the state.

Yes, Hong Kong is a repressive and lonely city.

I can imagine how the media and the crowd could criticize towards a forum like SS in Hong Kong. Secondary students are even forced to sign something like "no suicide agreement" a few years ago when over ten of them CTB in a short period. I hope ppl don't regard this as a taboo in that way.

Heyyy there..I'm from India. And I absolutely agree with you that the approach to mental health is not at all progressive. People here are so hushed up about depression and mental health problems. I can only imagine what would be my parents' reaction when they'd come to know about me.

I see some good progress these couple of years such as implementation of therapy pets, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) where it used to be unavailable, acupuncture.

Just wish society as a whole are less hush-hush over these things. Younger generation maybe much more vocal with their experience and I hope this awareness can inspire people of all age groups to come out from the "dark".

There is a high percentage of depression rate reported in the society over the past year. I am kind of person always feel insecure. The society situation further put me in a horrible emotion. Although I feel I mess up my life anyway. I've got tries to access help from counseling and self help book, but it seems not so useful.

But it is NOT an indicator true and sensible personalities do not exist in this city.

The region is about 85% opened up and I suspect a number of surrounding countries are lifting restrictions too.

HK is a model of what civilian power looks like in spite of all the misfortunes you've had to face. Unfortunately our govt and its backers are not quite as competent. We have yet to flatten the curve or even perform broad testing yet much of the country is reopening. So it looks like the virus is staying for much longer. This means longer lockdowns for us in the long run. My ctb plan is on hold indefinitely because of it.
