sorry to hear that. I would never have children while being poor. I wouldn't want my children to struggle like that.

That's why I tend towards antinatalism. To have a real chance in this world you need rich parents. With enough money even the dumbest of the dumb can become CIC..

While I don't think about it 24/7, I do think about money fairly frequently, especially when I go out to spend it, be it groceries, paying bills, rent, and sometimes even for entertainment. As far as having children, I'm just against doing so because the world sucks enough as it is, and I don't want to bring in more suffering into this world, regardless of how much money I have. I guess you can consider me an antinatalist myself.

Most of every problem outside of one's self and even with how costly mental health is most of everything invokes money. It's sick. It's such a gamble and a travesty to judge a person by the size of their bank account. At the end of the day what helps me is the fact that all the rich parasites will die and won't be able to take any of their wealth with them. Good riddance to them as they will be nothing too and won't be able to feel the insatiable sense of greed no more.

When they say money can't buy happiness I completely disagree. In this day and age money buys all the things that can get you happiness. Health care, take care of taxes, houses, food, clothing, travel. Even at their basic, not even talking about anything extravagant, you can't live any kind of quality of life without it.

The majority of my issues could be solved by money. Except for the major depression, anxiety, and irreversable health stuff.

I've made insane good money a few years ago, but blew it. Now it's a "learned helplessness" kind of situation.
I know 50+ ways to make money online, legal and shady, and I mean quick money, within a few weeks, but it doesnt give me any rush anymore.

Money trumps everything. But death trumps even the money. So I choose death.

Society as a whole has really lowered its standards. Having a house 2 cars and kids used to be normal. Today people will be happy when they can afford basics and don't have to think about starving..

I think money is almost completely useless and trumped by virtually anything else - but you do need it for the basics. So please teach me? :D I need rent money + N money desperately.

I would hire a music teacher who would teach me how to play electric guitar, and would buy an electric guitar, and if you're sincerely clueless, you know now someone who would know what to do with it, hint hint hint :D can't buy social skills with money though

I've been out of work since 2013. My employer and colleagues were probably happy to see me leave. Spent a lot of time off work on sick leave. I loved my job and the money was good, especially for someone of my age. Had more than enough to live comfortably. But when I wasn't "well" I would spend like I was the richest person on the planet. I posted my savings, which was a few grand, through strangers letter box and purchased f**k loads of lottery tickets, convinced that I going to win (delusional) Got a car, even though I wasn't medically fit to drive and credit cards.

Hadn't expected to be out of work this long. Thought I would get my mental health stable and get another job. Not to be the case. Mental health has worsened (never thought it could get any worst) Intended to return to university to finish my Masters degree, only had a year left to complete, but couldn't afford too.

Now by the time I've paid my bills, food etc, I'm normally left with £5 to last me a week or even two. I feel like a joke when friends want to meet up and do something. It's shameful because my best friends know I don't have a lot of money and always offer to pay. It's soul destroying. Once financially independent, now rely on the government to support me. What a joke of a life I live.

there a few studies on this

once people reach a certain income people wont get more happy when they earn more in average

other studies shows that it also depends on what you spend your money...eg spending money on things/stuff dont make so happy like spending money on activities or on time. what do i mean with time? spending money to avoid things you dont like to do so that you have more time to do the things you would like to do...eg paying a cleaning lady...the time you would have spend on cleaning the toilet is now free for other activities like reading, sports or whatever

I have a decent job and career but still can't afford the things my parents could at my age. I can't afford to live on my own (UK)
I can't afford to have children.

It seems a never ending cycle

I've seen the studies. Not talking about that. More of Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs being met. Most of those can't be met without money.
Like I said in my post, I am not talking about the high more money than I know what to do with income. You have to make 40 or 50 k (USD) to get at least a comfortable life. Nothing really brand new.

Yeah, a lot, I want to make enough money to live comfortable without working, and more in my country, the pay for near any job it's a little fraction of other countries pay, even I don't struggle to live right now, I would love to not have to work.

and we travel more...

but yeah western middle class got fucked big time by globalisation
In general yeah but as a family we travelled loads. I had a very good comfortable life even though my parents (baby boomers) don't have degrees.

All we want is what they had.

And I can only see it getting worse for the next generation. it's my main reason for being scared to have kids. I can't see a future for them. I can't see being able to leave anything for them.

When we were kids,we were pretty poor. I even thought I was adopted because there were no childhood photos of me. We just couldn't afford a camera. We had to eat everything that we were given because food was valuable. There was even a period of homelessness where we stayed with various relatives and dad would sleep on the floor.
But I don't really remember being unhappy. We were lucky enough to be loved. my dad didn't spend all his time at the pub or beat our mum. I knew I was safe, cared for and was never truly hungry.

I suffered heart failure as an adult and I know this much. All you take with you are your memories. Those small moments of true happiness. They ARE there somewhere. The truly rich are those that live with love and are loved all the time.
I used to worry constantly about money. But now if I have the things I need ( a warm bed, a secure roof, food in the fridge, clothes that keep me warm, somewhere private to wash and take a shit),then I am satisfied. The happy moments don't depend on family. They can come from anywhere. Seeing a beautiful blue sky and for just a second feeling real joy.Or laughing at a joke that makes you feel like you'll wet yourself. Those are the things that make us rich.

There are people we call "rich" who live an entire lifetime without knowing this. They will die empty and alone; "Alone" doesn't mean without another person in this case but rather without any deep connections in life. I hate hippy rubbish, but it is true. Obviously money can make life easier. But it's true that it doesn't bring happiness either.

Same. But my options are limited despite having an extensive education and work history. I screwed up and have a criminal background that makes it difficult to get hired.
