I have been on Lexapro for about 3 weeks now and they have just started taking effect a few days ago. I literally cannot physically feel sad, no matter how hard I try. I can feel my mind blocking the emotion when I try. I've read that some people also are numb to happiness. I haven't really fully experienced that yet. Anyone else feel the same?

I've been and Sertraline and Citalopram a few times. As I understand it, they're on the weaker side. Still I did feel the numbness that many talk about. They made me really tired too. Even with frequent exercise and a good diet I felt without energy. To me they're OK as a temporary help but I wouldn't want to be on them long-term again.

All the SSRIs I've taken are Zoloft, Lexapro and Prozac being my current one. Prozac is okay.

I've been on fluoxetine, sertraline and citalopram. I felt that a lot on them but sometimes it takes a while for them to completely work. If you feel up to it and want to see how you adjust, give it a try. Is it your first SSRI? It does take time to find the right medication. For me, SSRIs made me feel more empty and suicidal so after three tries my doctor and I decided to try different types.

Studies that proof the efficacy of SSRIs are horribly biased. One thing that bugs me really bad, is the fact that doctors are adamant and really ignorant towards withdrawal. Lexapro and Fluoxetine were really meh tbh. I'm waiting to be admitted into a psychiatry and will maybe get Esketamine treatment. If not, I would give Moclobemide or Tranylcypromine a shot (MAO inhibitors). There are studies than claim that they are not any better than SSRIs, but those were so ridiculously biased and paid for by Eli Lily. Hoping for the best :/

I have them here. I think I need them but they refuse to give me something to help with sleep untill I get used to them. Ssri insomnia is no joke. Lexapro/escitalopram btw

I'm gonna begin Paroxetine cause I've received a brand name supply offer outside doc circuit. It seems one SSRI which also address SAD and GAD, not only depression vs Fluoxetine. It was this or Amitriptyline possibly more powerful for mood, which would cure insomnia too. Need a sleeping pill now. I can't sleep less than now if it creates agitation. It seems less prone to create weight gain than Ami, sometimes loss. Plus the occasional emotional fading. A chart about long term impotence in males got me scared of Sertraline, up to 6x more odds than Ami/Paro/Fluo/Mirta. Don't know what to expect beyond.

I was on Escitalopram and citalopram (not at the same time) a few times and then went off them - slowly - because they made me feel numb and dizzy. However, I'm getting severe anxiety again. Fretting and worrying about everything so I'm going back on meds.
It doesn't take away suicidal thoughts in anyway for me. My desire to ctb comes from a practical perspective that this is a logical solution for my hatred of life. If suicidal thoughts came from anxiety or panic only, then the drug may stop that. They just take the edge off life a bit.

I've been on escitalopram for anxiety for about 8 weeks now and it has done nothing. I was told that it should start working after 4-6 weeks. I doubted that it would work so I'm not surprised by the results.

I take the highest dose of pristiq and you're right, you can't feel anything. But sometimes the depression and certainlyt he suicide creeps in.

Also, this is TMI but as a guy you can have an erection but this one doesn't let you climax. I guess it's good for your wife or girlfriend.

But it doesn't cure suicidal ideation for me.

To the guys who can't climax on SSRI, is it also numbing the pleasure before ?
Ejaculating takes away a lot of physical energy and I believe is similar to a small nuclear explosion spoiling chemicals in the brain. Sometimes I wonder if too much/often doesn't create imbalances towards mood's stability. There are guys who try to avoid external ejaculations, blocking fluids on purpose. Don't think I'll mind if there's still sensitivity for the most part.

Been on fluoxetine for about 20 years and GP just keeps dishing them out on a repeat prescription, no questions asked. I don't think they have much of an impact as I still feel sad most of the time. However, I decided to stop taking them a few years ago and felt worse so ended up back on them. Not sure if it was due to stopping the medication or just whatever was going on in my life at the time. Wish I'd never been put on them in the first place. Doctors prescribe them far too easily, or they used to anyway.

I wouldn't say it takes away the sensitivity and pleasure but there is just no end into you get tired. Clinical study of 1 of course as I have no one I've discussed this with.

yea I feel the same. I don't feel sad, but I feel like in my mind I want to do what I want to do aside from my emotions.

I haven't experienced this issue or any sexual side effects.
