My dream was to be a historian but social anxiety crushed it. Anyone who love reading/watching history?

The early Total War games got me interested in history at a young age. I thought about studying it at university but it didn't seem profitable...

Me. I'm fascinated with WWII. Have dozens of books on the subject, some rather rare.
Mostly interested in personal stories, as places and dates don't resonate with me, but human experience does.

I'm the opposite. I like all the facts, figures, and maps. I dislike narrative-style history writing or those WW2 documentaries that are old guys talking about their experience.

I like the feeling of history, like the seamless continuity of all of it, but not the dry facts lol. Doomed forever to be a pseud.

That's funny - my favorite rare book is an old guy talking about his experience. :tongue:
It's called "The Way of a Fighter", by General Claire Chennault, leader and founder of the rag-tag US mercenary group "The Flying Tigers", who in just 6 months of combat and with only about a dozen operational fighter planes, nearly destroyed an entire Japanese air force in the skies above China.

@Good4Nothing
My ideal history book is essentially a tome sized wikipedia factbox.
The war in China seems mostly forgotten outside China. Not like there is much nice to remember about it though... except the rare story of a group of US flying aces.

I love history, it was my favorite moments at school. I prefer watching over reading though.

I've been watching a lot of WWII history. It's absolutely fascinating as technology had advanced significantly. There was just so much going on. I think both the European Theatre and Pacific Theater were equally interesting imo and each had very significant events. There was also kinda an unofficial third theater of war, in the Middle East, the Mediterranean Basin and Northern Africa.
