I am a decent writer who is trying to write more fiction. Academic writing kind of fried my creativity with sentence structure and metaphor, but I'm slowly getting back in the game (I hope).

Cooking is a pretty basic skill most people have experience in, but I am the key person in my family for desserts at family get-togethers. No one else has the patience. I even developed a few recipes of my own by adjusting and combining others. I make a very good lime ginger blueberry pie with coconut crumble.

When I played a musical instrument (a brass instrument), I got pretty damn good despite having no talent. About all that could be said in my favor was that I'm not tone deaf. That one took a lot of hard work. I still can't believe teenage me could be so dedicated. It was an unhealthy obsession like that movie Whiplash. I don't play an instrument anymore, but being a musician has helped me connect with music in a way I never could have before, and I am grateful for the opportunity despite the sacrifices I made.

So, do you have any skill that you are proud of even if it doesn't have much currency with others?

I'm a bit decent at drawing but stopped because i got bored of it. I tend to drop hobbies and just stop at a level where i'm just mediocre at it.

relatable

I wish I could draw. My family thinks I'm good, but it's just because I put more effort into drawing for the kids than they did. I can copy pretty well but cannot produce anything independently. It was that way with my instrument too. I did not understand music well enough to be a songwriter.

Was going to say I have a really fast typing speed if I try my hardest (like 200 WPM or something like that) but that sort of pales in comparison to being a talented writer or an artist doesn't it? :ahhha:

Eh, I am jealous. I don't type properly, so my wrists hurt after a while of typing. I used to struggle at my old medical scribe job, let me tell you. I used a fuckton of abbreviations and then undid them later.

I can be funny at times, but it's completely random when it will happen. I also can't force this at all, almost every time I try to be funny without "feeling it", I just regret it and and it's added to the mountain of cringe I have to deal with.

I feel like cringe is part of your schtick though as an aspiring e-husband, so it works.

Grounded beef, not as appealing as a strawberry elephant...
It looks like one of the computer-generated images making the rounds. Is it?

I don't know the origins of strawberry elephant really but I don't think it's a AI generated image like Dall-E, this picture has been floating around the internet for years.

I feel extremely uneasy when there's a stranger in my house or when I'm dealing with strangers in some ways. Then, in order to avoid it as much as I can, I learned to do almost everything one can need, from structural repairs to electronics, electrical wiring, plumbing, cutting my hair and many other things.

I'm both proud and ashamed of it, because I learned some not-so-common skills and some quite rare ones, but I feel ashamed of having done so just in order to hide the fact that I can't properly do simple stuff, like dealing with strangers.

Don't feel bad for it. It's something natural and that's the very reason some excellent comedians become so bad when they start getting famous, because they can't be funny at will and the public will demand more content all the time.

The trick is to not force it and, when it happens, make it look as it it was all calculated beforehand ;)

I've got a bunch of different squandered talents I'm proud of. I can juggle, twirl fire staffs and poi, breathe fire, balance on a tightrope, walk on stilts.

I can beatbox, keep a mix going on a set of CDJ's in various genres, play guitar.

I can draw, rather well I'm told. Though I would say I'm average.

I have a green thumb.

I'm an excellent driver.

I can roll perfect joints, and make perfect airtight bongs every time.

I tend to have some access to hidden knowledge about people and places without being told or shown, like a sixth sense. Though I believe a lot of people are capable of this if they practice, and make an effort to use those parts of the mind, some people seem to have a natural ability.

I can skate, I'm not very good but still proud of it.

No one was able to beat me at Tekken 3.

I make a mean vegetarian spag bog that my picky nephews and nieces go nuts over, and they don't even miss the meat.

Probably more but I'm getting tired.

I like to draw and paint and people say I'm pretty good at it. My hands are also pretty fast, making me a fast typer and always the winner in online games, so I'm proud of that too

My main skill is being able to explain complex things in a way that people understand. It's probably because I used to work as a journalist, and I've travelled the world solo. I believe I have a decent perspective.

Used to be good at drawing as a kid. But I lost a drawing competition when I was 6 or so, and because my family shamed me so hard for it, I stopped drawing entirely.

I've written a handful of bizarre sci-fi stories a while ago. My colleagues at the time seemed to really like them. It started out as a challenge, we had a writing forum and I wrote a scathing critique of some guy's work (I regret it immensely now for being an asshole but to be fair it was really shitty in every way). The guy got pissed and told me I was good only at criticism and not creating. So over the next few weeks I wrote a few short stories of my own. I stopped bc I realized I lacked the life experience to come up with "packing" for future stories -- like I'd get excited by a "what if X happened" idea, but then be unable to build a story out of it. During one of my subsequent down-spirals I deleted all the stories.

Pretty good (though extremely slow) at cooking. There have been many nights where I'd make something, have it, and be like "damn that's amazing, why didn't I make more of it" lol.

I guess I'm good at improvising as a side effect of my laziness. Albeit, it leads to me fixing things that shouldn't be fixed with things like duck tape...

Yeah, it's stressing working with hard news, constantly searching for a good story, conflicts. Working on deadlines. Most journalists I know, end up lonely and unhappy. They drink too much, go through several depressions. It's a high- tempo life. A good journalist get their information directly from the source. So you have to do a lot of research in advance to find the right questions to ask.

I'm from Norway, and I've travelled all over Europe. I've lived in South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Peru). I spent 6 months in Cuba and 2 months in Dominican rebublic. I've been to Africa (bagpacking) and Thailand.

I learned to play some instruments and reached a good level on it. Piano, violin, guitar and saxophone, I wanted to learn to play keytar but I gave it up years ago, so now I must be rusty, I no longer have instruments anyway.

I can edit writing pieces. I don't know if it's a particular talent or skill and I can't come up with an idea to save my life (wink wink thought you'd like that joke there) but I can run with ideas and tweak writing pieces so it flows a little bit better.

I'm also a massive pushover that is completely forgotten/forgettable by every member of my family unless they want something - and if you're a particular sister it's usually to make yourself feel better by putting me down. Fuck you Casey.

I'm a better editor than a writer too.

Also, I have never met a Casey or Cassie I've liked.
