I love music and taught myself guitar starting at age 13. Unfortunately I'm not trained classically and have no real formal education on music theory- I just learned how to play my favorite songs by my favorite bands and went on my own from there.
Edit, just to add more of my thought on the topic:
I feel I'm at least somewhat proficient as far as my ability to play chords and such, I can play songs fine, but otherwise I'm lacking and too insecure to play with others. I'd love to play in a band, but I just lack the confidence to persue it and the social skills to even reach out and meet anyone. Kinda ironic since my favorite genre is punk, where skill isn't necessarily the most important aspect.

I'm a bass guitarist and synth keyboardist. I've been doing both for over 15 years now. I'm mostly just writing music for an indie game I'm making right now though.

Very cool!
I'm actually very interested in synthesizers lately, I've been saving some money and should be picking one up sometime this week, hopefully tomorrow if I have time.
Looking at the Korg monologue xd. I've never played one so it'll be a completely new experience for me.

Korg makes good equipment. Synths have gotten alot better these days. I mostly use a midi controller right now as it's easier to interface with my laptop workstation. Better portability as well if I'm working outside of home.

i can relate in your lack of confidence :'), even though i give some lessons to begginers and practice too much with a metronome some traumas make me feel horrible playing with others.
if you are able to read music you'll probably be able to play in a band, reading just the rythm with tabs would be fine too.
a tip: just go on an aventure, dare to meet new people even if it feels strange. i personally did this and it felt great, i meet many bassists, pianists and other people who i can talk about music with! hope that you can form/enter a band in the future

i listen mostly to rach/mozart but chopin is my all time favorite to listen and play! would you be comfy to share your repertoire?
im a pianist too, with 2 years of playing and less than 1 of practicing with a piano at home

Yes, classical and I love Chopin too! Once upon a time played piano, organ, harp, conducted choirs, sang opera, taught music. Those days are long past... :I

why did you stop doing those activities? :(
you must be exceptional at the piano to be able to play it, studying harp and singing operas! you remind me of my teacher

Age is one reason, but when I lost my Mother, I didn't have the heart to continue. She and I used to play and sing together. She always accompanied me on the organ or piano and helped me in everything I tried to do. She was an incredible musician and could play a song after listening to it just once. She could improvise and play for hours without looking at any music. At age 6 she learned to play every hymn in the book when her grandmother promised her a silk dress and at 13, she played one of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies on the radio.

I don't know if this qualifies but I play a lot of heavy metal on my guitar. Tool, lamb of god, A7X, Rage against the machine songs on my guitar.

I played trumpet for six years in middle school and my high school's marching band. I took a year of music theory too before never touching my trumpet again. Was definitely the happiest period of my life (though at the time it didn't feel like it).

Now I play an acoustic guitar poorly and screw around in this free synth program called VCV Rack. I constantly fantasize about having people to play with. Doing anything music related is a lot more fun in a group.

Play guitar, bass and some keyboards. Jammed with a new band last week and it went okay but just felt off. I'm overdue for ending things and I'm reminded of that daily

i play bass guitar, i've been playing since freshman year and it's been one of the few things i enjoy. playing in my school's jazz band has been fun even if the band director can be a prick sometimes

yesss mozart is great too! and rachmaninoff.. good taste :)
his Elegié has been one of my favorite pieces to listen to in the past little while.
any pianists you like in particular? have you ever heard of seong-jin cho?

when i started listening to piano music i went from yiruma at first, to some of chopin's nocturnes, and i ended up absolutely in love with chopin's nocturne 20, c-sharp minor to the point of wanting to learn it,
i've had a grand piano at home all my life (which is super lucky) because my mom would play some debussy, or church music. but she rarely really made use of it which was kind of unfortunate.

anyways, i could sortof read sheet music because i played flute a long time ago, but i had no idea on how to read the bottom bar and play with two hands simultaneously, so i saw these synthesia youtube videos and went on from there!
i basically stopped dumping time into video games and put it all into the piano, playing two hours a day on average at first id say, later on definitely more.

i havent had a teacher so far, and i'd (initially) learn from synthesia by memorizing short parts, learning a new part of the piece every other day.
this way i ended up learning nocturne 20 after about a month or two/three, still having some difficulty with the runs however.

then my attention went over towards fantaisie impromptu, which was a huge jump up in difficulty and i struggled with it for quite a while, only learning the first minute ( the fast part up until the slower middle section) after about three months, but actually getting it up to speed with the polyrhythm was hugely satisfying to say the least :')

then after fantaisie impromptu i got kind of crazy and went for chopin's first ballade, honestly my favorite piece in all of music, definitely wanted to play this one sometime in my life, and hurdle after hurdle, struggle after struggle, i've recently finished it about a month ago, took almost seven months.
i definitely can't play it to the quality many would desire it, some parts in the middle section are very tricky, and the coda as well ofcourse, but it is so so so nice to be able to play it

while playing and practising i've also practised a few other pieces but never really put effort into finishing them, it was such a chore with synthesia to memorise it.
about a month ago however i just decided to start reading music and start off (relatively) simple, i've finished chopins prelude 4 and im currently working on the first part of nocturne 13, and liszt's consolation 3

One of my dreams is to learn music but I almost never did. I compose a lot of stuff in my head but can't do anything about it so I feel like wasted. I like almost any genre but my favorite is rock/metal and VGM

I played handbells for a while, because I was a weird kid and couldn't pick an actual instrument.

I know this counts for nothing.
