Writing is the only thing that has tethered me to this world. It is one of the most underrated, overlooked art forms.

But I love it. I went to college for it and spent years writing every day because everything else paled in comparison. There is nothing like raw creation through the written word, especially when you can invite people into that world.

It's the one bright light in my bleak world. Is anyone else here a writer? Poetry, fanfiction, original writing, etc.

I'd love to meet any fellow writers who have also stared into the abyss.

Favorite authors are Harlan Ellison, Stephen King, and Cormac McCarthy.

I am a writer too. What sort of stories do you usually create? I like fantasies set in the regular world, and for poetry it's on whatever I am feeling

I like writing dark fantasy. Anything fantastical or fictional with a realistic, gritty theme. For themes, morality and fate are in almost all of my writings. I love examining those themes time and time again.

Poetry for me usually comes from a thought or experience. It unravels itself for me -- I can't command it to the page like I would a piece of prose.

Yeah, poetry feels like it has its own will, and escapes from our control.
My prose stories usually feature themes of magic and time travel and mystery

I think there are quite a few who would make good writers here. What was your major?

My major was creative writing. I enjoyed the courses and the professors. They never sugarcoated anything about the writing industry and made me realize it's about the writing, not the advances or money or fame.

I took a couple of writing courses, with the intent to write short stories related to suicide and pro-choice.
The courses were interesting and forced me to write. Mostly autobiographical stuff.
One of the exercises resulted in this post on my profile.

I have a couple of ideas for suicide related stories. Not sure I have the will to follow through though.
