I just want to graze all day and eat junk food. I have realised I basically live off instant gratification and I'm essentially addicted to food. I've just had my dinner but legitimately could eat some fatty junk food right now. It's weird because I can even feel that I'm not physically hungry, but emotionally hungry for food because I'm used to eating to the point of discomfort.

I understand. It's not that I want to eat though, but I don't know what else to do to try and fill the void. And I'm also used to eating until it hurts.

I've become too used to it now and now my mind and body have completely separated from each other when it comes to food ;-;

A major problem is that the food manufacturers hire chemists to include ingredients in their products that help to get consumers addicted, IMO. Then, the marketing wizards who work in brand management design the packaging to encourage maximum consumption. And, then we are bombarded with endless food porn on television from the marketing gurus.

I won't watch food porn, either I look the other way or I immediately change the channel; this is how I better protect myself from over eating.

There are so many clever Harvard MBA types within these food companies doing this type of stuff behind the scenes. I try not to let them win.

Food is great, man. I probably have a fast food addiction... but like you mentioned, at it's core it's all about instant gratification. Good food comforts me more than people do at least. I'm lucky to have a fast metabolism tbh. One of my favorite pastimes is getting stoned and ordering from my favorite Chinese place down the street.

I feel you. Every human being is in constant pursuit of pleasure or happiness, there not only nothing wrong with that, there is pretty much the only possible state to be in. When "complex" sources of pleasure, such as meaningful relationships or achieving your goals, either become unattainable, or devalued because of a shift in the worldview, we all switch to simple instant gratification, and I know it's not much of a consolation, but at least junk food isn't the worst thing to be addicted to. If you're depressed and experience anhedonia, the physical sources of pleasure are usually "the last to go" as well, you might lose your ability to enjoy anything else, but you will still like eating and sleeping. I wish I could offer you a simple solution to this problem, but I don't have one. One thing I do know from my own experience and experience of other people is that you're unlikely to constantly feel like grazing on something when you feel genuinely entertained or invested into any activity. But I do realize that finding things that are entertaining or engaging can be very hard.

@madbananas @BitterlyAlive I fully relate to this. Lately, I've been eating until it hurts. I also sometimes eat so fast that I'm looking around confused like "Where did the food go? Oh, I inhaled it!" Have you ever had successful tricks to control eating?

It's tough. Sometimes getting a small plate and forcing decent portion sizes helps, but I usually lack self control and end up just eating too much anyway.

I feel the same... I just eat until I almost explode. :aw::aw: I didn't always eat so much junk food, now I can't stop. I eat too much real food as well. I love to graze the Chinese Buffet until it hurts.

There are different dietary theories concerning how each of us eats. For me, I'm called something like a "volumn"? eater. Others are grazers, etc. For me, I like/need to be stuffed at least once per day. I apply OMAD (one meal a day) type principals to my diet. I concluded for myself that I mistakenly equate the feeling of being stuffed with the feeling of being loved.

My approach is to fill my stomach with lower calorie foods - egg whites; plan non fat Greek yogurt; veggies; fruit, etc. I would probably eat dirt if it would make me feel full and loved.

I believe the challenge for some people is to experiment thoroughly to learn what kind of eater they truly are. Trial and error. Try OMAD, try 3 meals with 3 snacks, try skipping breakfast, try huge breakfast no lunch small dinner, etc.

Everyone is different with this stuff. Keep experimenting to find something that works. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Thus, if it did not work last time, try something new. Just my opinion.

That's a really good approach. Lots of protein to ideally keep you feeling full.

A common meal for me is 2 cups liquid egg whites (250 calories) with 2 huge gluten free brown rice tortillas (180
Calories), I cook the egg whites, heat the tortillas and have two humungous burritos......fully stuffed/loved.
There is something called a Protein Sparing Modified Fast, which is a diet used by medical professionals in rare cases. The diet is almost pure protein. Helps underscore the idea that protein is filling.

You really won't believe this but I dreamed about a Chinese buffet last night! However, in the dream the didn't have anything that I liked on the whole buffet so I asked for a refund and left. Want to dissect that dream together? Sheesh!

Maybe the dream about the buffet is a metaphor for life? There is nothing you want and you are ready to move on.
