I blame popular science most for the public's scientific illiteracy when it comes to machine learning, or what they like to call "artificial intelligence". That being said, if humanity doesn't destroy itself first, we will get to a point where robots are as or more intelligent than baseline humans. However, when that happens humanity will integrate cybernetics and genetic engineering to the point where there won't be much of a difference between synthetic life and natural life.

My biggest irk is that people believe machine learning will somehow make this happen in the next few decades when it's a century off at best. The whole "technological singularity" affair is so stupid I lose brain cells trying to debate with them.

Pretty interesting stuff. I would care if I hadn't completely given up on life.

A shame (especially given the context) that the links seem to have some Zuccbook tracking or something (see the fbclid parameter in the urls, and the https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u= prefix for some of them). Not that I blame you or anything.
