Is any else completely repulsed by the phenomenon of ageing? I view it as such a horrific evil in the world, in the same league as cancer or AIDS. I can't even look at elderly people directly, such is my aversion to it.

To clarify, I do not hold any ill will whatsoever towards old people, rather I view them as mere victims of this horrible disease, and respect them fully. But I can't even face them because it terrifies me, looking at them and seeing in their wrinkles, their liverspots, their worn joints etc...what kind of humiliating degradations await me. There is no way I could live as an elderly person, I can see that even now in my 20s. Yet, I have spoken to other people about this and many of them accept ageing or even embrace it, which totally bewilders me. Such a positive perspective on ageing is incomprehensible to me, and ageing is one of the major reasons I want to die -to escape having to face it

What are your thoughts on growing old?

Growing old is one of my worst fears. I cannot imagine myself ever being old, to me it is horrifying the thought of witnessing yourself mentally and physically decaying. I already have experienced health problems at a young age and this will get worse as I get older. I dislike how it is a norm in society, how people are expected to live until an old age with no right to die, or at least where I live. The life expectancy is far too long. I think many people who embrace the whole ageing thing are in denial of how bad things can get, and are likely to be more optimistic people. I think no matter what I will find a way to leave this world before I get old as it will prevent many years of suffering.

To quote a user who goes by the name of "Hidden Base":

"I don't care what anyone says, ageing is a disease. There is no difference between ageing and age-related disease like arthritis and alzheimers - ageing IS the collection of all age-related diseases. It's literally damage to the body, loss of function, and loss of structure. There are no benefits to ageing (biological NOT chronological), and if you can somehow find one, it's definitely outweighed by the costs. People accept it because we've been unable to do anything about it since forever. That should soon change, but we're not there yet. It's a wholly undignified state to be in, from my perspective."

You can only embrace it if you have money and good healthcare. It's impossible without this.

Yep, I'm also terrified by ageing. Old age just seems miserable especially in today's society, so many elderly people are forced to continue to work because they simply can't afford to retire.

I'm fucking terrified of ageing. I'll do everything in my power to never go past my 30s at most.
Watching people around me growing old is scary in of itself.

I'm also scared by aging and I can't comprehend how someone aware of our inevitable mortality and aging can willingly bring someone into this world. I see it as pure evil.

Everyone would look at me and say that I'm not old and some would even say that I look younger than my age, but I can feel it everyday. The decay. My body is decaying. It's slow, but it's here: a small fleck that appeared recently, the subtle loss of mobility, more body hair, variations of the texture of my skin, etc. I'm extremely observant and aging haunts me.

I will quote a phrase from a suicide note posted here some time ago:
"Aging is for those who enjoy life. Not for me"

I think I read somewhere that most people in their 60s and 70s are actually very happy with their lives. I think most of this is just having family and friends though. If you're without family and friends (as I probably will be in my 60s and 70s), it'd probably be far less joyful.

i don't ever want to be old. i'm almost 20 and i already feel like i've been here way too long.

there's no way i'm ever letting myself reach my 50s... or maybe even my 40s. both sound awful, might just end it at 35 if i'm not already gone by then

Being old equals being even more vulnerable and stuck in this hell - no, thanks.
I don't get younger people's motivation in staying alive so I clearly am puzzled by 60+ year-olds "enjoying" their time here?
To read news papers, go on walks and eat stuff for the 100000th time? What's the point?

It really terrifies me. I'm 24 now and I don't even like the thought of becoming 25 next year. I often worry about the aging of me and others especially loved ones. It's a very bad thing for me.

Guaranteed death, I'll take it. Rather die not super-slowly tho. Anti-ageing will just make ppl die slower and suffer more (unless they like life or sum).
