Loosing teeth is our first sign of mortality, knowing they'll never come back. You're right, we're slowly decaying right now and the thought of that sucks :(

jesus christ...we grow up for 15 years, then we are in our physical prime for another 15 years and then we stay alive for the next 50 years only to witness our physical and mentally decline from the front seat

I agree with you OP. From my perspective, there are few rewards for hanging in there for the long term. We decline physically continuously, and that can be difficult to devastating psychologically - depending on what is lost, and a person's ability to cope with the particular losses.

My appearance concerns me less than other aspects of aging such as poor health.

I do notice that I don't seem to be as attractive as I was when I was younger.

I agree with you. Aging sucks and what sucks even more is that once someone has reached the point where their body (and mind) has failed them, then they are just left until they die naturally (oftenly suffering through lots of pain and anguish before passing). No thanks, I'd rather die while I am able to control the manner and circumstances of how, when, and where I die. Therefore, I've got my method and when things become too much for me, I'll just check out.

I'm probably older than most of you here. I had about 20 healthy years: mid-teens to mid 30s.
Minor healthy issues became increasingly major to a point now where I'm in bed from dinner onwards and my vision is so bad, I can't read regular sized type.

Yet I have to in this condition still finish out my career: 4yrs with reduced pension, 9yrs full pension. Stress to get there is extreme. I could tolerate my medical issues if I didn't have to work. I even like turning grey.

I just don't understand why we have to be old for so long. If you live until 80, then that's 30 years of being old. Your teens and 20s are a shorter period.

I think about it all the time.

I haven't aged inside, so I also don't understand why we have to age outside so drastically and consistently .

It's one of the shittest things about being in a human body. You are old much longer old than you are young. Relative to perception or not, It's a a cruel design. I never got to enjoy being young at all either, missed out on everything that people look back on as their 'good old days'. Now I am 28 and people think I am about 19. How pathetic and depressing. I would maybe trade places with an 80 year old just to be able to die sooner.

The only thing I like about myself anymore is my looks and my body, but even that will start to fade in ten/twenty years. Then I'll be a horrible person with a decaying body too. Not to mention all the health problems associated with ageing too; dementia, arthritis, doing dead/blind... no thanks, I'll just die young.

The only good thing about getting older is giving less of a f&£k about what people think. In my teens I would have been terrified to walk into a room full of people and start talking - now i couldn't care less. Maybe as you get older you find more random rubbish to talk about. Or you just realise everyone is as insignificant as you are and people are more interested in themselves and not worrying about what they think of you.

That scares me too, especially the thought of mentally degrading eventually. One of the few things I like is playing guitar and I feel like it's only going to get more and more difficult as I become "slower" in my ability to think and process information. I still have a few years before that would really begin to happen and I hate thinking about it.
