• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

so I have an online friend with a disability and he's had a horrible time. He's Jewish / bisexual and has experienced a lot of discrimination and he had his bank account taken away from him after taking part in a peaceful protest, meaning he can't get his disability payments (he's from Canada). He went to the USA and was staying in synagogues but now with Trump in power he feels unsafe
In Canada he says he kept getting pressured into MAID (the euthanasia programme), but he said repeatedly he doesn't want to die. He's now just told me that he's decided to accept their offer but I know he doesn't actually want this. He just feels like he has no other option because he's homeless and feels he has nowhere safe to go and no one to stay with
I said to him maybe he could try to claim asylum here in the UK but I don't know if that would work I really don't know what to suggest

As far as I know, MAID can be refused.

He couldn't get UK asylum for that. Hell, the UK will turn down pretty much everything right now.

US culture wars are using MAID right now as a football - he should reach out to a Conservative news outlet (such as Fox or the New York Post) and offer to sell his story to them about MAID, that might get him enough money for a while.

If he is a Canadian citizen I can't see on what grounds exactly he would be claiming asylum, legally. Neither Canada not the United States could really be said (for legal purposes) to be at war, persecuting Jews or Bisexuals or unsafe nations in which to live.
If he got here unlawfully it would really just be the luck of the draw as to how long it might take the government to deport him.
In general terms he'd probably be accomodated in a hostel, receive publicly funded legal representation for his initial asylum application and subsequent appeals if his application was refused.
As far as his disability is concerned, he'd receive free of charge medical and dental treatment. This is one of the major complaints of the British public, that there are waiting lists of years to get on an NHS dentist list and it's almost impossible to get a face to face consult with a General Practioner; whilst asylum seekers are prioritised.
The waiting time for asylum applications to be processed was, last time I heard, in the region of 4-5 years.

What the fuck...? why are they pressuring him into MAID if he doesn't want to die? I'm not against euthanasia by any means but pressuring a disabled person into killing themselves sounds horrifically evil in my eyes.
