So i came up with the idea of using a sphygmomanometer(blood pressure device) for blocking the carotids I don't know whether it can block both arteries but theoretically i think it can work

You probably mean the carotid method. Better use a tourniquet (amazon $12,- , brandname TIME).

Interesting. Since the blood-pressure cuff is wide, it creates an even pressure around the neck. And there is also no danger of cutting your neck, as could happen with a cable. (You had written something about using a cable in another thread.)

Blood pressure cuffs that have been used on me were connected to an automatic thing that tightened then released... I'm imagining that with this sphygmomanometer device you can keep tightening it? It's enough to make me want to order one, but it would seem like a weird thing to arrive in the mail.

I have a non-automatic blood pressure meter. The automatic thing wont work for this method because it stops automatically.

To tighten it, would you keep inflating it with more air?

Could you please attach a photo of the blood pressure measuring device you are talking about?
I don't speak English, so I may have misunderstood the translator program.

By the way deepl.com is a great translator.

I wonder if a regular cuff is wide enough. If someone has a thick neck, they would probably need an XL cuff (up to 55 cm / 21,65 inches).

To be honest, I think this device is unreliable for our purposes. The sticky part is very easy to detach when this part is increasingly inflated.
I measured my blood pressure in a similar way by wrapping my arm. And this thing that wraps around the arm is constantly being disconnected, because the sticky part does not connect one end to the other well :(

Maybe you need a new cuff or a larger XL size. But I still think a tourniquet is better for the carotid method.
I will do some tests and measurements tomorrow (not on my neck).

Do you think it's necessary to buy a special made tourniquet? Or is an improvised one good enough?

I kind of agree with you, but someone has managed to tighten one around their neck fatally, which is surprising in itself.

As i understand it, if blood can flow into the legs but not out the backpressure on the heart can cause fainting in under 5 minutes and be fatal within a few more.

Update:
I measured my blood pressure cuff. It measures only 53 cm total length. This is too short for the neck of an adult. So if somone want´s to use this method they would need an XXL cuff. But I´m still not sure if this would be a good method. I do not recommend it.

More info page 59:

This is just a general information. I do not encourage you to commit suicide and to use these methods. You act on your own responsibility.

Just seeing the thread title "theoretical" to me CTB is nothing "theoretical" at all. It's either I want CTB fullheartedly or I don't. All exceptions and possibilities have to be eliminated as much as possible so the fist attempt will be successful.

👍Right. That´s why I updated the thread and said I do not recommend it.
There must be a reason why this method is not much discussed. Also it doesn´t make sense to me why you should buy a much more expensive blood pressure meter when you can get a brand name tourniquet for US$12.
