Okay, watched a couple more today.

The Grand Budapest Hotel hit way harder than i expected too holy shit. highly recommend as a comfort movie. also has literally every well known actor known to man in it.

Other than that I watched a few old movies for historical value. Got a kick out of it.

hoooooooly shit

Impressive cinematography, but was a miserable viewing experience.
I have to say I still enjoyed it regardless. I think I'm just a sucker for the "aging rockstar" trope since I really enjoyed Bojack Horseman and Disco Elysium.

Won't be alive to catch Return to Silent Hill this year. It would've been the last movie I've seen since 2018.

I watched The Batman as well not too long ago. I kinda went into the movie expecting to hate it but I probably liked it more than the Dark Knight Rises. Serial killer Riddler was a great, though not definitive in my opinion, take on the character and they drew inspirations from various Batman sources and pieced them together to make a pretty good narrative.

I did kinda get a case of ending fatigue. I'll try and keep this in a way that isn't too spoilery, but that last scene of Batman and Catwoman together went on too long and was just kinda ridiculous. Tangent, Catwoman's costume annoyed me because it was SO CLOSE to being a great, comics accurate, costume but her mask just looks goofy and made it hard for me to take her seriously. Should have gave her the goggles. Anyway, the big reveal that starts what I guess you could say is the 3rd act even though it's really a 4th act by the time you get to it would have been better as the actual ending but I guess they didn't want to end it on a total downer. Otherwise, most of my other critiques are rather nitpicky. I came away feeling it was 8/10.
The Batman I just re watched it this year and really appreciated it. Everything from it entertainment value to it's commentary on society. A couple of viewings later it gets better imo.
So much hidden details and so much happening on the screen at one time so unless you are an expert movie watcher you can get many fresh viewing feelings out of it.

I have alot of empathy for riddler. I love how they've done it. Its bleak depiction of reality. I suppose I can understand why people sheeple think it's too dark because they don't want to face reality they've helped create.
Great movie making we don't see enough of.

When I first heard they were doing it I thought "just 8 years after Nolan's what a farce , arseholes" and wholly take that back. Like Joker, they have used the batman to comment on very taboo aspects of this sick culture in the west and where it's leading if people continue turning away.

Been rewatching a lot of old horror movies lately. The Beyond, Alucarda, Night of the Demons (1988), City of the living dead, The Howling, among others. Most recent one was Suspiria (1977)

I recently saw Terminator 2 and I loved it. I liked it even more than the first one, though the first one is excellent.

I enjoyed "12 Angry Men" the most, easily my favourite.

The film literally takes place in one room and is about 12 men (jury judges) discussing whether the boy is guilty or not. It's their decision to either save the boy and prove his innocence or put him into an electric chair.

I'm Chinese and I mostly watch Chinese movies because I strongly prefer them over Hollywood movies. These are my top 4 favourite.

Cry Me a Sad River
About a girl in high school who is driven to suicide by bullies at school. Her mom is a prostitute and works out of their house. A client used one of the girl's towels and she contracts an STD from fomites. The main bully found out and spread rumours about it.

The Woman in the Storm
About a woman in an abusive marriage who ends up snapping and killing her husband when he was asleep. Her lawyer helped her get the minimum sentence for murder in China because of the circumstances that caused her to commit the murder.

Better Days
About a girl who gets bullied in high school and ends up meeting a small-time criminal. They end up falling in love. During an encounter with the bully, the girl accidentally ends up pushing the bully down a flight of stairs and she lands in an unfortunate position that killed her instantly. The criminal dumps the body and later on falsely confesses to murdering the bully. However, the girl gets eaten alive by guilt and ends up confessing. Both of them go to prison for a few years, and after being released from prison, they both reintegrate into society.

Lost in the Stars
A thriller about a couple who go on vacation together. The wife goes missing and the guy desperately looks for her, but it turns out that he was the mastermind all along. The wife's best friend makes an equally convoluted plan and brings the guy to justice.

I recently saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. I'd hardly call it a kingdom. It was more of a prison/internment camp than a full-on kingdom. Anyway, it's cool that the apes can sing and swear now.
