it seems like a small insignificant statement, but for me, it's a big statement. One among many others that ive "forbidden" myself to say or feel for years.

I dont like pink. I cant like pink. I'm a girl but not a girly girl.

i have refused to allow myself to be me. oh no, i cant like pink, i cant like roses, i cant like butterflies. thats way to obvious.
in some cases it was just "unacceptable", in other cases i wanted to be unique and roses just didnt cut it. there must be something "better".

is there anything youve forbidden yourself from saying/feeling/doing?

As I've gotten older I'll pretty much admit anything . . . to anyone but my parents, so I guess that's what I forbid myself from - being honest with them.

I had a similar moment in life! I now buy myself things in pink, like cute headphones or utility items. It makes me feel comforted. It felt really nice to be able to embrace this and be okay with what people consider really girly things. :) I know who I am (I think).

I'm still learning to not forbid myself from a myriad of different aspects of life to be honest.

But on a similar note, a few years ago I bought myself my first stuffed animal. It honestly helped me a lot, probably inner child stuff and an ex who ridiculed me for liking cute things. I like being able to see cute objects and not criticize myself for having them because, in the end, we're all just kids trapped in big bodies.

On a more serious note, I forbid myself from …cringey behaviour in a sense? I was always a really serious person but one day I just gave it up. It's okay to act dorky sometimes or be silly or like "dumb" things. Kind of feel like I wasted a decade being stoic to end up like this but what can ya do.

Pink is pretty and some of the best things are pink, like someone's cheeks blushing after a compliment, strawberry cake, cat toes. Happy for you~

Pink (hot pink, to be more precise) is my favourite colour. Wouldn't wear pink, but that's just because my preferred wardrobe is black shirts and blue/black jeans. I've got a few surprised reactions when I say that I like pink, which I suppose is understandable considering I'm a metalhead-looking guy, but the surprise actually makes it rather fun. I like what I like, and that's it. Same thing with music, books, movies, anything else I like—it doesn't matter if it's something others would "expect" me to like or not.

I did buy hot pink sheets a couple years ago. Liked the idea of hot pink/black for my bed, and it looks quite nice.

I went through that as well, I completely feel you haha. For a long time I refused to accept anything girly especially because of stereotypes, but now I've accepted that pastel pink is my favorite color ever lmao

Nice. I used to think it's too gay for me to have pink decorations in the house... or to watch homo porn...

Pink certainly get your attention. Very pretty color but can be overwhelming on large quantities.

Not me but my family prohibited me from wearing black, because it's a funeral color.

Well… duh?

I feel dumb saying "I love you" to friends very quickly in relationships, but lately I've been doing it regardless of how silly I feel.

Howdy!

There is absolutely nothing dumb about saying I love you. That is part of the human experience and I say it when something or someone hits my heart. In fact, I think that it takes a very strong person to shout to the world I love someone.

You are a very intelligent and ever so lovely soul and never ever let anyone tell you differently.

Sending you lots of hugs, love and caring thoughts.

I used to escape to very feminist spaces because, for a long time, they were the only places I knew of where I felt safe and understood. However, they were also anti-makeup, anti-long hair, anti-feminine, etc. I tried for a long time to force myself to not be feminine to fit in.

After leaving almost all social spaces and just spending time with myself for a bit, I started to accept myself more. I prefer long hair, it's easier to maintain (ponytail, + don't need to cut it as often) and I enjoy styling it. I like makeup, it's fun and I like to try new color combinations and trends. I like dresses with big skirts and baking cakes with swirly pink icing. I've accepted that I'm very drawn to feminine things. Looking back, I was when I was a kid too. The signs were all there, but I denied it from myself.

Accepting my own personal style has helped me a lot mentally. I felt like whatever disconnected sense of self I used to have actually wasn't as disconnected as I thought.

FANTASTIC! Reading your post is SO refreshing to be able to be YOU! I have lived my 68 plus years my way 100% and never bother anyone and YES when I was younger, I dyed my hair bright red bright everything and let them stare, so fun!

Lots of love and have a great week, my good friend.

I usually wear all black and I'm a cargo pants and combat boots type of girl. That's what I like, and I think it suits me well. However, sometimes I just want to change it up and wear something girly looking, like a pink lacy dress. There shouldn't be anything wrong with wearing something that isn't my usual style. Somehow I feel guilty doing it though. I don't know why.

Actually, I think I might know why. I was sexually abused as a kid and deep down I feel like I don't deserve to wear anything that's really feminine, delicate, dainty, etc. I haven't thought enough about the underlying significance though, to comment on it succinctly.

Pink is something like "special colour" for me.

To your question:
I probably forbidden myself in the past to find a solution for some issues, to come back to some places, and I have probably also forbidden myself in the past to be trully happy. I must find a way to myself in the future.

I used to forbid myself from wearing makeup or wearing clothes i liked, because i didn't want to ruin someone's day by witnessing my ugliness. I've always felt like a pig wearing lipstick, doesn't matter how hard i try i know that people can still see the truth. But i don't care anymore, I'm going to die so i might as well do what i want.

You are a BEAUTIFUL soul and NEVER EVER think and/or let anyone tell you differently. Being 68 and having been around the block a few times, folks like YOU are so precious.

Reading your post, I was overwhelmed by the facts of just how caring and kind you are.

You are such a wonderful person, and I am so very glad, you help each each and every day live with 24/7 chronic pain, and you are a beautiful sunrise.

Lots of love and caring thoughts to/for you, my good friend.
