Police came to my door a few days ago asked me if I wanted to kill myself.

I Told them No and they left after a few checklist questions.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I'm paranoid that it will escalate. I think I looked a total mess and was visibly shaken and been crying.

Am I in danger of going home?

I've been staying at a hotel for last few days terrified to go back.

I can't deal with being sectioned right now.

I had the Police visit, about a month ago bloody early in the morning around 3 or 4 AM they said am I depressed, lol lucky I just went to bed and was nodding off and heard a bang at the door I got up everyone else was asleep so no one else found out.

They haven't come back I don't know if it was an online pro-choice message I wrote or they have the previous purchasers list from my SN supplier but go home they never returned if they did just answer as you did before.

Cheers

Why do you think you were given a welfare check?

Family called either police or non emergency number on me

I have a suspicion their officers would love to do these types of checks all day.

Often if they saw no reason to be concerned, nothing will happen. At worst, it'll just be your Gp is notified but that's all.

Don't worry they are really busy raiding OAP's 70's and 80's birthday parties and giving them £70 fines, :smiling: go home they have fulfilled their duty of care so they won't be back unless they have new information you intend to harm yourself.

Cheers

They came to me once but I never saw them again.

Being 'sectioned' means different things depending on which section of the mental health act you're being detained under. The police have the power to take you to a hospital, but they don't have the power to have you actually accepted by that hospital - a psychiatrist will interview you. Unless you're really bad its unlikely that they'll have the beds or the resources to spare to take you in.

Feel you. It's absolutely traumatising not feeling safe at home and wrong on so many levels. Disturbed me a lot too and have been resolved to get away from here as far as possible ever since. But if they had serious concerns or grounds to take you in they would've done so on the visit, imho. You should be ok for now.

They prefer to treat people with mental health issues like criminals instead

I disagree.
They may treat people with mental health issues with a lack of care, or run through the official motions without much consideration for an Individual's despair, but believe me... the difference between the police turning up for a welfare check at my house, and the police turning up at my friend's house to arrest them and drag them from their bed (I was sleeping next to them) were astronomical. And I'm not saying this as a support for the ;police, I fucking hate them, but I am saying that I have never felt like a criminal in my years of being dragged off the top of fridges and picked up from Argos. Kinda more like a bizarre gremlin, wielding a knife at its gangly wrist

Welfare checks are totally frightening, and I'm really sorry you're stressed out Outofhope. But I really don't think they'll be back. They'll assess the immediate situation and if you're not broadcasting, you won't be picked up <3

In my experience, there is more compassion for us within the police than in the NHS mental health system. So if people say the police treat us like criminals - imagine how bad the health professionals could be!!!! (In my experience)

I went *missing* a few days ago it was reported to the police, I use the term missing loosely as I came home on my own accord, but the police did a welfare check the next day, I found/find the UK police esp in my area very empathic and helpful, I have no issues with them.
They won't ship you off any where unless they section you under a 136, which they can't do if you are in your own home, step outside your front door though and you are screwed!!

If you find the cops are at your door, just phone in a bomb threat in the local area and they'll disappear pretty sharpish.

Then you're lucky not to of ever experienced police brutality when you've been severely mentally unwell.

The next step is nothing. If they were going to do something they would have done it then. I'm so sorry that someone called you in. If it was a family member they were obviously really worried to do that. Police welfare checks are bad but if they've left it means they were happy to leave you x

I had 2 welfare checks in 2 days a whille ago, one was my friend they called non emergency number. I got drunk made a mistake and texted him good bye and told him how much he meant to me. He got worried and the police came round. They asked alot of questions and at that point I was in such a state, I agreed 100% voluntarily on my part to let them take me to hospital. And they picked my brother up so he cud stay wiv me. Nothing was done I sat in hospital for 4 hours in reception. Wen i was finally seen I was given a prescription for valium, and then told the pharmacy was closed.....the end. The next day the police came round again, I was in such a state I didn't bother answering my fone to the crisis team (I didn't know it was them) so the crisis team called the police. Usual questions and I apologised then they left. I think if they were going to do sumfin they really would have done it in that time they were wiv u. I hope your ok.
