Lately I've been trying to secure a firearm to help aid ending my life. As someone who previously tried ending their life and ended up in a special place because of it. My home state of Michigan will not let me purchase any kind of gun.

There used to be a loop hole through gun shows because private sales didn't require checks. However now there's a push for the states to require them. I spent 160 dollars in an hotel room only to find out the gun show I was going to was canceled. Nothing online indicated that just a penciled in note at the door. I drove 2 more hours to another one and I was nervous. Just wasn't my crowd. Staying around long enough to witness a transaction taught me they very much do background checks even at gun shows in Michigan.

I think my next attempt is to go to Ohio and find a gun show there next weekend. Supposedly Ohio has not turned off the request and federal law still only requires licensed dealers to do background checks and not private sales. Does anyone here have any more light to shed on this?

I don't know about the regulations in other states but in Oklahoma it is illegal to sell a gun to someone who is not a resident of Oklahoma. I know a lot of private sellers who will not sell to you unless you can produce an Oklahoma ID or DL. I also know a few guys who don't care and as long as you don't look like a thug and have the money, they will make a deal with you. 🤷

If you do decide to buy from a private seller just make sure it's not a UC cop. They will walk the parking lots of gun shows here and arrest people trying to circumvent the laws.

If a licensed dealer is selling guns at a gun show, then they do have to fill out all the background forms and whatnot.
If it it a private seller selling something out of his private collection, it's just trade cash for gun. At least in my state....

How often do private sellers just not do background checks?

This is all i'm saying about this cause very low energy motivation and other reasons little time etc.

This year i went to a gun show . found someone at the gunshow that would sell me a shotgun cash bills. they said i didn't have to show my id or anything just hand over a few hundred in cash bills like 20's or hundreds etc. and that's it. if i would've handed him the cash i could have walked out with the shotgun no questions asked. he had a few shotguns to choose from. might have had more guns but they were about to close . i didn't buy but could have. i won't say the state.

he was a seller there at the show with a table etc. i asked some vendors if anyone was selling without a background check and they pointed me to the guy who was a few tables over.

but it was possible in some states this year. however things regulations executive orders etc are changing fast so don't know if that's still the case . it was a few months ago.
