I read some reliable statistics that 75 percent of all suicides in the uk in 2017 were men and this has been the case for 30 years. i didn't go into other countries except the us, where it is similar. It wouldn't surprise me if it was similar everywhere.

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula.../suicidesintheunitedkingdom/2017registrations

There's the radio on and i just listened to a report that it's the same figure for selfie deaths, 72 percent male, after i started writing the thread! That's serendipity for you. Selfies aren't usually suicide but perhaps there's a link there somehow. Are men more risk takers.

Why is the rate of cbt amongst men so much higher than women, at least in the uk and us. Are women equally as suicidal but don't go through with it or are they less suicidal. The most unhappy and unfulfilled people i know in life are usually men. But why? What the fuck is going on with men, 75 percent is a massive number.

Because men are told to man up and not be a pussy. I've heard that shit my entire life and quite honestly I don't give a fuck if I'm a coward for wanting to die. It's so stigmatized for men to let out our feelings and even if you do it once you are berated as inferior. It's no suprise men are the ones who kill themselves more because we are told to hold it all in for years maybe even decades and society has the audacity to question a man's sanity when he finally blows the fuck up. Every man has a tipping point and the rage is boiling inside each of us. We are told to sit down and act accordingly to take it like a man when all I want to do is scream fuck this shit and fuck you to everything.

I know as a man I feel powerless and impotent these days. We're living in a society that is supposedly run by us but doesn't cater to us on an instinctual/carnal level because females ultimately dictate the guidelines for acceptable behavior within a society. This is because they are mothers and gatekeepers in many ways, and are coveted and need protecting. Politics and the media also seek to marginalize men because strong, intelligent, free-thinking males are seen as dangerous. We're not meant to live our lives on the couch with a beer in hand, trying to forget our problems, yet it's what most of us are resigned to.

I have a feeling that women may be more inclined to low-grade depression but men are ultimately more violent and more determined to follow through on the act.

Both genders are probably equally suicidal but Men are scared of coming out as Suicidal due to society telling Men to Man up with little to no support. And Men usually pick a method that isn't going to fail and leads to death faster and more violently.

Women always have men flirting with them so they usually have it way easier for them than men..

The attempt rates among women nullify most of the hypotheses in here about female suicidality. Yes, even the fact that women are more encouraged to express a limited subset of their emotions, because attempts and ideation appear to be more common in women. (It's possible that men are unable to recognise their ideation and all studies are failing in this way.)

Also I'm confused by those who think there are abundant support networks for women. The only people on here ever berated for being suicidal are mothers.

I don't have a good explanation for it other than the choices of methods, but I think that is a poor explanation. I do think men are less likely to seek help or risk intervention due to their social tendencies, but I may be wrong on that. Suicidality, and female suicidality, are poorly studied.

all of this, and the more " manly " methods tend to be the more lethal or harder to reconsider or back out of. so if you have any thoughts about looking like a " pussy " feel sorry for even typing that jfc, it might push you in a direction.

Perhaps a 'me too' movement along these lines.
Huh? Could you reword that for me so I can be sure I understand what you're saying?

i meant women getting together to demand better treatment in the support for female potential suicides/and or mental illness, if you believe it's poorly catered for.

It strikes me that a woman going to seek help for emotional/suicidal issues is going to be seen by either a male, or a female who had been educated with systems generated by men, on the whole.

What I'm suggesting is more research needs to be done to answer this question, which is also what suicide researchers think. It's a long standing paradox. All people who are suicidal are poorly catered for.

There was just another report on the radio about the way mentally ill people and people with 'learning difficulties' are treated by the police in the us, it wasn't positive. Anyway, suicide contemplaters are among a very long list of minorities that nobody gives two shits about.

75 percent of men is high and despite some recent changes in equality in the west, i think men are still under pressure to just 'man up' and that revealing your emotions is a sign of weakness. It's caveman stuff. i was wondering if female rates might be lower because of their capacity to procreate, some kind of life affirming undertow, generally. I get your other arguments as well, such as women being more likely to fail from the stats. Even by natural death, men die younger than women. I can't be bothered to look into the reasons for that but it might be relative.

I think women who are subject to male hatred might have to understand that it's because some men fear women. They recognise them as stronger. I remember a quote from someone famous whos name i can't remember, that the main mission in the life of a man is to prevent the woman from realising this.
I think maybe this is a place to start, but really every single person that takes the more extreme views need to just remember what compassion is. Remember that your own suffering isn't the only suffering in the world, and while you don't owe anything to the people who hurt you, you certainly owe something to those people who've never interacted with you and that's respect.

It's not an issue I desire to get into in-depth because my views on it were skewed for a very long time and I probably couldn't debate it properly.

Debate is because it comes from all angles otherwise it's not debate. If we want compassion between people then yes, it might be another thread. I appreciate that you always have something articulate to say.
