Look at all the homeless. We just walk past them. Does anyone actually care if they die? A few freeze to death and no one cares. Look at our soldiers. Their lives are expendable and the civilians in the countries they occupy much less. Thousands perish and the US and its allies keep on invading countries. The reality is no one wants to feel bad. No one actually cares if their interests are not at stake. No one gives a fuck about whether you live or you die.

Depersonalization is a fundamental component of any complacent society. Everyone exists to suffer, we just struggle to stay above it while others dont need to think about it.

This is not the case for most people.

Family members, friends and even acquaintances will care.

So true. Yet this place is filled with miracles and we are blessed to be among them. Instead of leading great and peaceful lives we are living in a life of pain and lies. Nobody cares if anyone dies. Yet everyone is sad when anyone dies. We say it's the human condition so we don't have to have any responsibility like our parents tell us to. This could be a great and loving world if we acknowledge the pains and wrong doings in our daily actions now. It will be a long time before we stop living inside the TV and start looking each other in the eyes starting with our own children.

That probably varies. Very many homeless people struggle with mental illness and substance abuse. They may be estranged from their family. In plenty of cases, the family doesn't know where the person is.

It's extremely sad in many cases. Even if their families had the patience or resources to treat them, some homeless persons are beyond the point of recovery.

Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

I agree that we as a society unfortunately are short on compassion for the vulnerable and respect for those who serve. We're all too busy chasing perfection in our own lives.

But the people who are close will probably care, and you about them. Same for those soldiers.

Eventually we've got to submit to the fact that this circle of people is very limited, even within our own family tree. With the passage of time, we are all nothing. We die, people move on, and our life might just as well not have been. How many people do you think know even the names of their great grandparents? Eight people that are all part of us, without whom we wouldn't be here, and many of us aren't interested in their existence.

They may be beyond the point of recovery BUT they are not beyond the point of needing help. That help is denied by us as an entire group. We leave our people to live and die this way. This is sadly our fault in many ways. A mental person still knows when they are being made fun of. A mental person still feels alone and scared. They still want a warm place to stay where stress is not a daily occurrence. In the case of families they ignore the problem so they can "keep appearances". This is also a weakness and in a way a sin or wrong doing. All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to stand by and do nothing.

LOL. Also...sadly. This is part of the reason most of us are actually going to CT-fucking-B! We might be "missed" but where the fuck are they now and where the fuck will they be when we are gone? Why will they "cry" then? Then it will be too late. FML

That is not true. I gave out blankets and brought the homeless inside along with lots of others.
Yeah, but you're one person that does give a damn. Imagine if we had many more like you who did that or gave compassionate care to people in need, the world would be a better place to live in or at least have a chance to.

i think people care but don't know how to help. our society isn't arranged in a way where it is easy to care for people you don't know because money gets in the way.

I feel like many of us are fine tuned to the inherent suffering that exists in life, while many others choose to ignore it, because if they took a moment to think too deeply about all the misery in the world they'd lose their sanity. I too find myself agonising over the fate of those who have been forgotten.

Whenever I see little children being ignored and neglected by their parents in the street, homeless in the cold, animals abandoned at streetcorners, and so many other horrible everyday things that are right in front of us, I wonder how others can turn a blind eye to it.

I wisb there was something I could do to help them. But I am too disabled to do much and I am not even getting the help I need. Everyone is focused on their own little circle of family, and if you don't have a family, you're shit out of luck. No one cares for you because they are not obligated to and assume everyone has living, loving kin around.

What's worse is people who actively and assertively want to see and cause you to die. And then to only know and be aware of a world of nothing but that, alone in it, everything poisoned permanently.

To see a life and future where all hope of ever having a relationship destroyed forever, that's pretty fucking fucked up. But that's how the world rolls. And people think it's hilarious.

The premise of this thread is actually way more optimistic than I've seen in life. I'd personally prefer it if the state of things were "no one gives a crap." That'd be a huge upgrade for me.

Writing this out, man, my life fucking sucks!

People who love you will care about this. I'm still alive thanks to my dad. He's the only one who would do the impossible as long as I'm able to keep on living.

However, you are kinda right.

In most cases, people don't give a fuck about people.

Doctors will try to save your life but they won't care if they fail. You're just one more patient. One more number in this infinite universe.

Once you understand that most people don't give a damn about you, life becomes easier. At least that worked for me.
I'm not interested in having friends or a gf. I just want some money to travell all over the world and have all I need. That's more than enough for me.

Your story reminded me of those days in which I wanted to be a vet and save as many animals as possible! I would still like to do it, actually, but I'm way too suicidal and inconstant to get another degree lol

Yesss that's a great idea!
If I keep having this streak of constant good-mood days I'll do it.

My dog used to be a stray dog that suffered lots and now he lives like a king lol! It's amazing the way shelters can help!

Thanks for your advice, dear! You know you can always count on me too!

The main person who should care if I live or die is me and I could care less. So agree that most, sometimes all, people who know someone often don't care ..... but does it matter if the person doesn't care themselves ..... maybe, maybe not.

Nope. Nobody cares until it's personal. That's pretty much reality/how everything goes.

Example;
Lad on FB posts last year; omg?! Covid fake, nobody dies...."

Same lad this year; omfg?!? Stay indoors, don't breath outside your house??!!! My Nan died, it's 10000000% srs

So, everyone's motto is. "It ain't personal...until it's someone ya know personally'
