No one cared to listen

Today I had a conversation with stepfather about how i am not looking forward to my birthday this week because I have achieved nothing with my life.

My stepdad was just laughing and said how I am young.

He told my mum
My mum told my stepdad to ignore me and that my mum has real problems in her life. She said "when she's like that I just walk away . I haven't got time for that "

I hate my mum because think buying me things is love and I nothing to be depressed about. She goes on about how hard her childhood is.

I hate her so much she doesn't want to listen to my fears of the future.

Nobody cares about me and sees me an inconvenience in their lives.

Sorry to hear your parents are being dismissive of your feelings

You don't have to make any big achievements to be a worthwhile person so try not to put unnecessary pressure on yourself

Some people have a coping method of thinking they should 'just get over it' as they were probably spoken to like this by their own parents

They think one size fits all in coping methods when it doesn't - some people need to be given the time to talk in depth about things.

I'm so sorry to hear this. People can be so insensitive to what we are going through. Some people have this harmful mindset, where 'if they think they have it worse, then somebody else couldn't possibly be suffering'. Nobody deserves to be treated like this. I wish you the best.

Narcissistic parents usually make everything about themselves, and say stuff like "you have it easy because back in my day blah blah blah", because they're so out of touch with what we (in 2021) have to deal with that it's just easier to nit-pick at everything rather than attempt to help. Watch out for people that use love as a conditional reward though..... they're worse than the people who withhold love as a form of punishment.

hey firefox, im sorry your having this time.

i know myself the angst that comes with birthdays often makes anxiety and depression even worse for a short time

especially when your surrounded by people who not only have lack of understanding but plain make things worse is hell and makes you feel so trapped

tbh the step father doesn't sound like a bad guy, if not a little disconnected. So much pressure is put on youth, especially in teenage years that some think their life is over for not being accepted at MIT or performing top 10 in the state at graduation.

In hindsight the time I felt the most pressure to overachieve and feared failure was the time I'd have the most leeway and forgiveness in life. Fail all your classes 1 semester in HS at worst you get held back a year, fail a semester in college you might lose all your financial assistance and get priced out of attending, underperform or fail a job and you'll be fired and possibly blacklisted from your only shot in the industry.
