classic book
that isn't pedantic

ooh tall order. probably depends on how recent you'd consider "classic" and acceptable subject matter. Fitzgerald, Salinger, Kerouac, Orwell, and all those 20th c. white dudes are classic of a kind. i feel like once you step into the 19th c. there are just too few literate people that most novels are inherently wordy as ass so modern is probably your friend

Depends on what you mean by that, what you like (novels, poetry, short stories), the genre you're interested in, what you've read... I'm personally very fond of gothic litterature and one of my favorite books is "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" but anything from the Victorian era easily passes as "pedantic" so I don't really know? Maybe Treasure Island, from the same author? Really depends on a lot of things

I heard that Kafka's Metamorphosis is only 70 pages long so maybe this is what you're looking for. I only got around to reading the start of it but I never got to continue it. It's kind of crazy reading into the story of a person who woke up as a beetle hahah

Ah, I have another recommendation but it is pedantic, unfortunately. It's the Redwall series. My friend recommended to me and I gave it a try. It's pretty decent. I started from Lord Brocktree. It comes in a saga.

Dracula is a wonderful read, especially at this time of year.

I like the allegory of the cave, it's not long. Also not really a book I guess

I think Of Mice and Men fits the criteria. Published in 1938, it's a novella about two laboring men who contrast each other, yet both dream of having their own ranch one day and living "off the fatta the land." However, tragedy inevitably strikes... good read
