Hey,
I couldn't find a similar question so I hope it's okay to ask. I'm struggling to decide wether it's better to try and make it look like an accident or to leave a suicide letter. I want to hurt my family as little as possible and I don't know whether it's better to leave some words and explanations or if it's better if they don't know I wanted to die.
How do you decide what to do?

How do you plan on making your death look like an accident? Just curious.

I have written letters to my family. They will know I did it myself, so no point trying to make it look like something else.

If I had the means to make it look like an accident, I would do that to spare people's feelings. But I don't, so I can't.

It's going to be hard to make it look like an accident, but you have the choice to not write a letter if you think it'll hurt your family less. I think most people would tell you write the letter so it doesn't leave them in the dark and so that they have words to remember you by, but eh. Personally I'd rather not leave anything explanatory behind, but we all got different circumstances.

Probably best to tell the truth, rather than leaving them with insoluble questions.

Okay, well, I guess a letter is really better than making it look like an accident...
I thought about a car accident. When it's raining a lot or when it's stormy or something like that. Some circumstances where it's likely to lose control over the car and crash... Or choose a street where you can't really see if a car is coming and walk in front of a truck. Although that would be kind of unfair to the driver...

Crashing the car into a tree might not work unless it's in a very old car without air bags.

I would prefer the appearance of an accident. But I wouldn't know how to do it. It's hard enough just coming up with a concrete plan to ctb.

Either way, there is an inquest after every suicide or sudden/unexplained death which usually last days, weeks or months. Even if you made it look like an accident, during their investigation they would probably uncover some tracks that you had intentions to kill yourself

You're probably right... I think I always try to make myself believe I could make it look like an accident. But that's probably just a wish.

it's normal to think that way and wish for the most ideal situation, but often times it's not very realistic unless you've never exhibited or shown suicidal intent before and it was a completely impulsive act without witness.. I mean the fact that we use the internet to search and talk about this stuff creates a digital footprint anyway so in most cases it would be found out eventually through an inquest investigation.

I used to think the same way because I thought it would be easier on family if it was an accident but a sudden death, whether suicide or accidental, is gonna hurt people regardless so I don't think it changes anything. I don't want to be ashamed of my decision so I'm going to leave a note and be honest

I don't think the lorry driver would see what happened but having a car crash in already hazardous conditions might put whole families in danger. I'm not a driver though so it really is just my opinion

That's true, I thought about crashing into a tree or something like that. Of course the conditions would have to be stable enough to actually still be in control over the car and just hoping that the police might think it was an accident. But that's just my mind fantasizing about a way out without hurting family members. Now I'm pretty sure a clear suicide and a letter are the best way to do it...

It depends if your family know you're suicidal or not. You could make it look like an accident to the best of your ability but they'll always be wondering if it really was an 'accident'.

I guess you're right. I think when your family knows about your depression suicidal thoughts it's really hard to find any method that doesn't look like an accident. I kept wishing to get cancer, that would be one of the only possible ways to truely not be an obvious suicide. Okay honestly I still hope for getting cancer. It would be the perfect way to die in my opinion. Because it wouldn't be your fault and you'd have the time to say goodbye to your loved ones
