I was never on Prozac; however, I have been using Paxel to control my anxiety for over 20 years now. Initially, there was an adjustment period where I would experience the serotonin flashes. After my brain acclimated to the medication, I was fine and anxiety-free. My medication did not contribute to suicide ideation instead it was my ailing health that hastens me to plan for the inevitable. Plus, the recent COVID pandemic only made things worse.

Sorry for my ignorance, what do you mean by serotonin flashes?

I should have used the proper medical term. It is called, "serotonin syndrome." Wikipedia defines it as "a group of symptoms that may occur with the use of certain serotonergic medications or drugs. The degree of symptoms can range from mild to severe. Symptoms in mild cases include high blood pressure and a fast heart rate; usually without a fever. Symptoms in moderate cases include high body temperature, agitation, increased reflexes, tremor, sweating, dilated pupils, and diarrhea. In severe cases, body temperature can increase to greater than 41.1 °C."

For me, the predominant symptom was brain zaps.

SSRI gave me PSSD, it's devastating. I'm surprised more people aren't reporting symptoms of this shit. I'm devastated. Genitals are all numb and dont work properly.

200mg Sertraline daily for the past 7 or 8 months. Maybe slightly longer. Yes it helped my suicidal thoughts though I still plan to ctb in the next few weeks. But one of the biggest side effects I noticed is lack of a sex drive. Like I feel nothing towards sex. This wasn't the case before taking them. As for if it will come back if I stopped them? I don't know.

I have permanent anhedonia from being on Zoloft (sertraline) for years. I was put on it as teen because of my depression and it did nothing. I only stopped feeling suicidal when my situation briefly improved from 18-22. Then I quit med and getting off was completely hell from withdrawal. I still have anhedonia and it's been about 5 years since I last took them. Dr said it's a rare side effect but it does happen. Drs are never upfront about side effects and how devastating or life altering they can be.

They are clueless drug dealers. Im mad at myself for not doing proper research before I started taking these poisons, but I was in such a bad state of mind and so suggestible that you could've convinced me to take anything at the time.

We are the guinea pigs with the SSRIs. These drugs are only 30 years old, there are no long term studies with these medications. We are the data.

I'm on Venlafaxine and I read it basically acts like SSRI. It reduces my appetite so I lost a few kg and it put me in my ideal weight and I have no problems with weight now which was (passively) one of the causes of my depression. I can eat whatever I want now without it showing on my weight too much. That's pretty much the only positive though, I don't feel less depressed and i still have suicide thoughts. I made my ctb plan and got all the things I need t ctb while being on Venlafaxine. I don't want to change meds though because I'm scared the other won't reduce my appetite like this and I know this group of antidepressants reduce appetite. But my psychiatrist lets me try antidepressants from all categories so she can see which ones work and which ones don't so if I tell her this one doesn't she will probably try a difference whole category which I don't want because the weight issue is really important to me. But yeah overall it's not good. I've taken actual SSRI-Zoloft which was my first anti depressant and it was bad and I felt like my depression was deeper and it didn't help me at all

I've been on both escitalopram (Lexapro) and sertraline (Zoloft). In my opinion, the hardest part is getting off of SSRIs. Once you get on them, it's so difficult to stop using them. Horrible symptoms can follow. I've found the same with the SNRIs that I've been on as well.
